What happens when changing the core of cubes?

Hi,

In some videos, I have seen people replace the core of their current cube with another core. For example, camcuber's video on the Lone Goose said that he swapped the core of it with an A-1 core.

What are the benefits?
Why?

Also, are there any combinations of cores and cubes that make a good cube?

Thanks.

I think he means other then core faults like mis-sized screw holes. Like why would one put a Maru core into their C2? What makes 1 core better then another?

I put an F2 core in my storebought and it turned it into an amazing cube after some sanding.
