I got a 58 in my science test (pass) and these are some of the things that my dad said
"You couldn't get a 90? Not even 60?"
"You have to be ahead of all of the teachers"
"This is not good enough"
"This is all this Rubik's cube fault"
"Keep cubing and you will see what happens"

What would be funny is if you study in secret and then very obviously cube so that your dad knows that you are cubing, and then when you get a really good test result, you could remind him that he said "Keep cubing and you will see what happens".

I mean, my (probably horrible) advice (that you probably shouldn't follow lol) would be to study a little extra when you have the cubes, and if he takes them away, don't study as much.

even if it’s passing you should try to do better

Sorry to read this...
I'm sure your father wants the best for you and maybe he thinks you are just doing too much of it.
I don't think it is a good idea to tell him that but I think it is much better to cube than to scroll for hours on stupid social networks!
You are:
- learning stuff
- progressing in something, and may have to be organized to do so
- developing manual ability/control

Sounds like something I would do. One time I pulled an all-nighter when my dad found me playing with my cubes in my room a little past bedtime. I was originally gonna put them away and go to sleep, but I had to make sure he would never do that again.

I was cubing as normal then my dad came into the room and asked me to hand over the cubes or else he'll throw them all into the bin and never buy anything for me again. My mum suggested I should keep on cubing for just one hour per day and then my dad went away saying that cubing is a waste of a hobby and it won't make you any money. That made me really sad and gave me a few bad solves

Conclusion: My dad hates cubing

My friends at school tell me this all the time and I don’t give a crap cuz they are all pretty useless themselves
