I figure out my cross and then if I see a pair that is already matched up, then I might try to make sure it isn't broken up.

Honestly, I just try to remember to put the puzzle back down toward the end of inspection and start the timer properly. This is probably one of the most difficult parts of the solve... except maybe for finishing a solve.

TL;DR: I try not to DNF during inspection.

I try to plan my first block (But I usually only can get the 1x2x2 and find the other two pieces because im not very good at visualising), and see if there's easy phasing...

It is always easy phasing.
Phasing in roux requires no additional moves. Frequently used in the LSE, however can be done in first blocks.


If I do CFOP solve I plan X-cross, Not cross then insert pair, but the F2L pair is inserted in making the cross.
