We need to make some major changes in this forum.

Honestly, I think one of the worst things to happen to SS are the negative reaction options (Namely the rolling eyes and annoyed emojis). As the old proverb goes, "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." If someone feels negatively about a post, they should give a thought-out response to it as opposed to resorting to an emoji that does not offer anything in the way of meaningful discourse.

The eyeroll and annoyed emojis, in my opinion, frankly do nothing but contribute to toxicity in the cubing community. From my experience, toxicity has only really gotten worse in the cubing community. We need to be proactive in getting rid of toxicity, and getting rid of those negative reactions would definitely be a good start.
Why do people care so much about reacts? They're the equivalent to Facebook reacts or whatever. You don't need to read into it.

Bruh i came here thinking i said something wrong(in my original post in this thread) as i had eyes up and confused but people are annoyed at my school system.

Damm tho this thread went somewhere.
Not a good somewhere compared to what it shoulda been but somewhere for sure.

FYI, since you seem to be very butthurt from misunderstanding my post elsewhere: despite nominally being a "Super Moderator", the actual moderation actions we can take are missing some crucial components.

We can (and do):
- delete posts and threads
- view and undelete "normally deleted" posts
- edit posts (I do this very sparingly and always make it clear which part was edited by me)
- move posts in a thread to a different thread
- move a thread to a different subforum
- lock/unlock threads
- issue warnings
- see the report queue (including who the reporter(s) is/are and the total number of reports on a page)
- approve/reject posts made by new or inactive accounts
- "spam clean": nuke accounts (ban account + irreversibly delete all posts) that the forum software thinks looks like spam

(edit: this is not an exhaustive list)

We cannot:
- ban people, regardless of how annoying they are (**)
- read direct messages not addressed to us (*)
- do anything about the weekly comp results (except for Mike)

(edit: this is also (even more obviously) not an exhaustive list)

The spam clean action is not always available, and I'm not entirely sure what triggers it. Nevertheless, it is definitely not the right option for an account that posts a mix of relevant and irrelevant content, because it permanently deletes all content from the account. Even if I could have banned ukcubefan with this (which, let me point out for posterity, I cannot), I would not, because he does sometimes actually talk about cubing here!

(*) I know ukcubefan was previously reported for this but I will not take any action if I cannot even see the context. Not that I could have, even if I wanted to, anyway.

(**) The forum rules state that accumulating enough warning points will get you banned but afaict the banning still has to be done manually. I can't just give someone 1000 points then have them automatically end up banned.
ok why no ukcubefan warning

You're the third poster on this thread to agitate for this particular forum member to be reprimanded.
We appear to be way off-topic; certainly this is definitively not what the OP was asking for.
May I respectfully suggest if you have an issue you take it up with the mods privately?

i already did
but i understand, ill stop

I'd say, if you don't agree with a thread, for example:

"hey guys I invented a new method, you just start CFOP but end in roux"
or
"hey guys I invented a new method, you start with belt and end peeling the stickers"

just don't comment in it. If people see their post is not popular, they will think why is that so.
If you just keep commenting toxic and hateful stuff you will feed the flame of hate inside them and yourself

silence is gold

comment on topics you find interesting and let the forum continue favoring different levels of cubers, the olders and the annoying kiddos. They are discovering this hobby, just as we were back in the day, let them have fun and be annoying kiddos. And report anything you think violate the rules, but keep your inner peace and respect.

I’m confused by this. You brought up Jdaw6 but I don’t know if you are on his side? I personally think he wasn’t just annoying, he divided the community and often went out of his way to disrespect others, so his ban was probably fair. He was given warning but didn’t change his bad behaviour.

I agree we shouldn’t condescend new members (I did have a bad habit of channeling cynicism into negatively reacting to individuals I labeled ‘annoying’).I don’t think we have a problem with this and it seems like you’re making problems that don’t exist/ aren’t a serious problem. If someone proposes a stupid method, we can tell them it is a worthless idea but encourage thought that might lead to cool techniques. I went through a phase of wanting to discover methods so I actually remember being like these posters.

People are people. Human nature still exists and unfortunately you have an idealistic viewpoint of sanitizing a forum that generally is fairly sane. Of course people that harass bully or promote hatred and division should be dealt with fairly but I don’t think members like this are that common. UkCubefan does make lots of pointless posts but since he’s not actively causing harm best approach is ignore him and he’ll start contributing more.

Please forgive me. A lot of this is sense and the truth is I have been on and off being active and might not have seen incidences of harassment.

I think it's a good thing that kids have a (relatively) safe place to mature in conversation online. I myself was a beneficiary of this forum in this regard. --There really aren't all that many online spaces like this.

Having your stupid behavior pointed out and addressed seriously is part of the maturing process.

And don't forget that this is a forum about rainbow plastic twisty toys, at the end of the day.

Can we also bring back progression threads to the front page? Now the only interesting thing that happens on here is when little kids steal their parent's phones to get on here to cause chaos. P.S. I find it kinda silly how they were removed based off of one old timer crying about them, when overall, people liked them on the front page.
Third thiz.

Hello everyone,
I’ve always loved these forums. From discussing cube mods and setups to congratulating others on fast times to discussing whatever it may be, this website has been an amazing place for me ever since I joined in 2022. One of the things I’ve liked in particular about the cubing community is how welcoming and supportive it is. The cubing community doesn’t judge or criticize anyone for any reason. Everyone is friendly to everyone no matter their background or who they are. Recently in this forum, I feel like that has not been what has been showing. With huge dramas from JDAW6 to many other people getting banned, we as a community have been very hurtful to these friends. The cubing community is a friendly space, and I want it continue that way. As a forum overall, we have been VERY rude to some members for literally no reason. Sure, maybe they have some obscure ideas or topics that aren’t relevant. However, that gives us no permission at all to treat them any differently than we would our best friend. People come with different backgrounds and have many different ideas and interests. Criticizing them will only make it worse. It’s honestly pathetic how many people have been offended by silly things on a website about solving a plastic toy. Think about how these people who have been banned for no reason feel. They’ve been banned for being themselves.

This cannot continue. We need to be the website and community people want to be a part of. People need to be able to look up to us and want to copy our actions because we are having a good influence on the world. This community WILL NOT treat others like trash no matter whether we feel like it or not. Everyone belongs here and everyone will stay. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t talk.
Thanks,
Isaiah

I agree with you still. Moderations should be improved and people should be banned fairly. Maybe a system could be added in which moderators must approve bans to work?

See this is a great solution. People learn to not be spammy and annoying and users are not annoyed. Silence is gold and peace is what you buy with it.

There's a difference between toxicity and disagreeing with someone. I would prefer to be told why an idea doesn't work or why something isn't landing with people over being met with silence, or worse, false encouragement. I get what you're trying to say but be careful not to over-correct and prevent yourself from contributing to discussions, even if it's in a critical fashion. If you're mature and the people you're talking to are also mature then there's no hard feelings, sometimes people are wrong and have disagreements, there's no reason for it to be anything more than an academic concern.
