WCA Competition for Cuba

Hello everyone. What's the best way to proceed in order to ask for a WCA official competition here in Cuba?

There was one back in 2016, almost 10 years ago, but the community started to grow around 2020.

We have our own system to register all the data from our contests using the WCA guidelines, but it will be also a good experience to have them here as well.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

That's the issue.

You would probably have to find some delegate from another country that is willing to come to Cuba and organize it.

Who was the delegate for the comp in Cuba?
WHere were they from?

Maybe the Latin American Lead delegate could make a suggestion... maybe travel plans could work out for a current delegate?

There are no delegates here in Cuba. The only competition made here, was because some delegate from another country came here. It could be another one with a delegate from Ukraine but things happened there back in the days.

As far as I can see, some doors have been nocked but none of them worked. Personally I don't know if is a matter of money or resources, but none of that matters right now.

And I'll like to clarify, there's an association here in Cuba that does the same as the WCA (the CCA), but at least a comp per year or every two years is not that hard I suppose.

Might be worth looking to the US senior or regional delegates too. US (Southeast) is pretty close and you can fly direct from Miami.

I understand that US citizens aren’t normally allowed to travel to Cuba for tourism, but organising a comp should fall under one of the 12 exemptions (“Public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions”).

Before contacting a delegate, I would highly recommend reading the WCA Competition Organizer Guidelines, as they provide a lot of useful information on the subject of organising.

As others have said, you'll need to find a delegate near to Cuba. I would contact Rafael Gregorio Martinez Paredes, as he's the Dominican Republic's delegate and is relatively close to Cuba. It would also be worth contacting some of the Florida-based delegates. You can find the Southeast delegates on this page, just do a Ctrl+f for 'Florida".
