But clock isnt like any other puzzle so I kinda see the point of removing
This isnt the first time this happened however (Magic, Master Magic)
Magic and Master Magic were truly pointless events
every solution is essentially the same thing
It’s like repeating the same solution you found for a 3x3 scramble as a WCA event
Clock, however, is a unique event. The reasons for Clock’s removal were somewhat agreeable, but I don’t see why they couldn’t have kept an exception. There’s a reason why they have such careful evaluation when adding a WCA event, and removing an event people have already invested in because YOU (referring to the WCA) added it into your list of events is incredibly unfair. I honestly think the only three things that actually supports clock’s removal is:
The fact that it’s not really your standard twisty puzzle (technically it still “twists”, but not in the same sense as the rest of the events)
The likeliness of a miss-scramble in transportation

But again, people have already invested in the event, so you can’t just remove it because it’s “not a twisty puzzle”. I actually think it makes the WCA more diverse by adding that one outlier event in a pool of colorful twisty puzzles.

The big thing i want to point out though is that if the WCA truly wanted a “Twisty Puzzle Only” organization, they shouldn’t have added Clock from the very start. Of course, the WCA was still young when they added Clock, so they probably didn’t think about the addition of Clock for the long term. However, I think they removed Clock at a very bad time since:
it just started to gain traction throughout the community as an actually “viable event”
the event was on pace to break a huge mental barrier (sub-2 clock average), and new talents were springing up (Karl Abarquez mention)
Clock hardware was finally starting to develop after years of the repeated term: “Get the QiYi Clock”.

To be honest, EVERY event will get removed eventually. It’s just how and when they get removed that hurts. 4BLD and 5BLD will probably get removed at some point, as well as some of the big cubes.

Another point I want to talk about:
The WCA needs to decide what organization it’s for. Right now, they seem to be having an identity crisis. One of the reasons Clock was removed was because it wasn’t “spectator friendly”. This made me wonder whether the WCA valued it’s image as a cubing organization over non-cubers more than the actual competitors. Same goes for the Worlds 2025 Clock podium. They rigidly stook to the regulations instead of analyzing and weighing the actual impact of ONE TICK.

anyway, that’s another rant for me (my yapping skills are peaking right now😭🙏)

abt clock at worlds, i mean rules are meant to be broken like ONE TICK THAT MADE THE SCRAMBLE HARDER
like its not that big of a deal. And it kinda seems like thats why they are removing clock,
I feel like clock should have never been in the wca but its been in there for the whole time and removing it NOW is just a bad idea, if they removed it pre-covid then no one would have cared, but in 2026 when people like it, they just shouldn't remove it. you had your chance to remove it for 15ish years and you didnt and you decide to remove at its peak.
