Okay, so I was just about to go to bed just now but got the sudden urge to do a 5x5x5 solve. I got an Eastsheen 5x5x5 recently and I like it a lot better than my Rubik's 5x5x5 so I've been practicing it more. I average about 3:30 now with a PB of 3:00.02. (I've never really practiced 5x5x5 that much). So I start the solve, my centers are about average, but my edge pairing is great for some reason. I get to the 3x3x3 part and it's a two move cross. The F2L was ridiculously easy. Nice OLL. I look up at the timer and it's 2:50. So I should be all set to have my first ever sub 3 solve, right? PLL is a G perm. I use double layer turns for all my G perms, so on the 5x5x5 it's like a quad-layer turn. So I get to that part of the alg, and as I'm performing the quad-layer turn, my cube just EXPLODES. Pieces go all over the place and in a matter of seconds my 5x5x5 cube suddenly became a 3x3x5. It was a FIFTY PIECE POP. It might be more actually because I'm not even sure I've found all the pieces yet. Unbelievable. Fifty freaking pieces. To make things worse, I really have no idea how to assemble an Eastsheen 5x5x5.

It's 3:00 am, I'm dead tired, and now I have to figure out how to assemble this thing. I'm going to be up for a while...

I guess just so that this topic isn't a waste of space... what's the worst pop you've ever had? Any horror stories like this one?

Well I have reassembled my eastsheen 5x5 a couple times... it was dropped while someone was juggling it then I think i had a similar pop when someone was scrambling it! I really don't know how he did it but the cube crumbled in his hands.
On the 3x3 when I first got my first ever DIY I thought it was a good idea to set it insanely loose and try to 2H with it... and I would cube in school... a couple times I had the entire cube pop and the pieces fly all around the classroom, literally shooting across the room. I think my worst was 13 pieces.

Whew... got my 5x5x5 back together and it is solved now. It was like a puzzle in itself. :P Though, it didn't take that long once I got the hang of what I was doing. I am seriously paranoid to turn this thing now though. No more quad layer turns...

Wasn't a pop but I droped my Es to the floor once, 20 square metres of pieces.

Jason, I took my Es 5x5x5 apart yesterday eavning (to sand down the spider a little so I can make it tighter, it's to loose now). When I did that I removed a centre and then turned it upside down and exactly two full layers fell of, same pieces that poped for you, maybe I woodoofied your pop when I did that :P

um well I threw my 3x3x3 cube one to the floor in our classroom during dismissal and every piece flew out .... the core even broke so I can never fix it again

It's easy to really take apart an Eastsheen 5x5x5 by just removing 1 piece. I was also annoyed when mine popped and I had to assemble it. The only hard part is the first part i think, when you have to put the pieces between the centers. One wrong move and everything will fall apart.

I guess my worst pop was when the edge that popped went straight into my eye. Only one piece popped but it really hurt.

My friend poped a piece of my Es 5x5x5 and alot of them came apart but he somehow put it back together so later on in the day i tried solving it but 3 edges were flipped wrong so I tried to flip them but more pieces came out. So me and another friend was getting the hang of putting it together but the bell rang and we had to go to the next class so I put the cube in my book bag and after that period all my pieces were off the core. I knew that would happen but I couldnt carry the cube around the hallway like that. Then to make matteres worse the person that broke it in the first place lost the core.

Is it possible to put 5x5x5 pieces on a Es 4x4x4 core?

Although the mechanism is roughly the same, the size of the pieces are different, so no you can't.

Thankfully, I don't have pops like that.

my ES took 3 hours to put back together after some annoying little emo kid, grabs it from my college table and goes "SUPACUBE!" and spam turns it so freaking fast and it just went boom EVERY PIECE popped, so irritating

I once dropped my 5x5x5 ES on the floor and had to reassemble a very extended edge. This was as I was about to hand it to the scramblers at Berkeley Fall '06. :p
(I got a PB in that comp. In fact, I've gotten a 5x5x5 PB in every comp where I've done 5x5x5... )

I also broke my magic and had to make the judges wait for me to assemble it. I placed first in Magic. :)

yeah I dropped my ES at the MN Open. It was right at the beginning of the copmetition, so I was still nervous, and as I was tring ot put it back together, my hands were shaking so much, I would just destyroy what I had already done

My "pop" horror story that still scares me today was, well, my eastsheen popped, ok, no big deal, a couple hours later, I get it back together, about an hour later, it pops again, the pieces go EVERYWHERE! I find all except one, and I still haven't found it. (hence the "stills scares me today") I complete tore my room part, searching every square inch with a fine tooth pick comb, it complete vanished. I'm now stuck with my rubiks brand 5x5 which is the stiffest thing ever. With my eastsheen, I was getting 4:00 average, now, with my rubiks, I can barely get under 7:00. GRRR! Need another eastsheen!

/End of rant.

My eastsheen has fallen apart in my backpack a few times lol. I always seem to not notice a piece that I missed in there, so I always get a little scare xD

Haha, a similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I was solving my 3x3x3 and an edge piece comes FLYING out of the cube. No big deal, right? It was just a one piece pop. But I looked everywhere and could not find the piece. It was my best cube at the time too. So I had to use an edge from one of my older cubes to replace it, but the shades of color were slightly different and I didn't have any extra stickers. Fortunately, some two or three weeks later the piece magically reappeared.

Wow, that sucks. :X

My old Eastsheen popped so many times... Once it fell apart in my backpack, I've lost two layers in a pop after simple double-layer turns...

The worst? Hm. Situationally speaking it would be popping at my first solve (5x5x5, same cube) at Cornell or Tim not being able to scramble my Pyraminx because it kept popping... otherwise it would probably having my 5x5x5 (same cube) pop in bus where the entire cube pretty much just fell apart.

I dis-assembled my ES 4x4 a couple days ago, to see what the mech was like(I wish I didn't :() and I set the pieces on my dresser. Well, I was putting my clothes away and accidentally knocked the top of the dresser. I was lucky and only one piece fell in. It was one of the little T shaped pieces. I found it after a couple minutes, but I thought I lost it. Still haven't re-assembled it. Could someone show me a tutorial to assemble it, and tell me how difficult they are to assemble?

My worst pop was when I was cubing under my desk at school and it pop hitting my taecher that I did not see walking by. It was my first diy so I had it loose. I don't know how it happened but two of them hit my taecher in the neck.

Hi :-)

Personally i hate ES 5x5x5. I used to love it before. With all my innner slice turns at very high speed the ES's simply cannot take it. VERY prone to exploding! I have had even worse pops than you. Luckily they're easier to assemble than the 4x4x4 version :D
