Top Times List

Mr. van Galen:
First problem: I (not actually me, just a "hypothetical" person) want to put in my signature all of my records (including single and average): 2x2x2, 3x3x3, OH, BLD, multiBLD, feet, 4x4x4, 4x4x4_OH, feet, BLD, 5x5x5 (OH, feet, BLD), 6x6x6, 7x7x7 (all OH, feet, BLD) as well as other creative multi BLD's, relays, square-1, magic, MM, chopstick solve, sovles with different methods (Fridrich/Petrus, etc), bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.
I hope you get the idea, these won't all fit in one line (although they would also perhaps be a bit excessive for a table >.<). At least it would be tidier and out of the way for those who don't want to see that mess at the bottom of every post.

The best times topic rarely gets updated, if I got a new best time it would be much easier to edit my profile than make a post and follow up to make sure it was up to date. I still think a nice table would be the most convenient for everyone.

You misunderstood Dene. I meant that you put them in that topic and make the link go to your own post in that topic like this. If your best times change you edit your own post in that topic.

This really isn't a bad idea either, although it is somewhat less organized and harder to find people's times if you are just browsing through it. If this is done, people could at least put a link in their sig to their post in the thread.

I checked out both googledocs and edit grid. They both would do what everyone is wanting, but you would lose a little bit of convenience. I suppose it depends what everyone wants. The benefit of adding those times to peoples profile is that you could compare everyone's times from the memberlist, and also that if you were reading a post from someone, you could just click on their username and see all of there times.

The downside is that this method WOULD require some coding. I am more familiar with phpBB than I am with Vbulletin. I know that with phpbb, there would not be a substantial amount of coding to be done... but it would be a few hours worth of work. I imagine vbulletin would require a simliar amount of effort. Ultimately, the decision falls on whoever does the coding here... (PJK)?

Yeah, that would be a great idea indeed. "Putting a link in your sig to their post in the best times thread". Why didn't I think of that? :rolleyes:

* Put all of those times in the best times topic,
* Edit them when needed
* Put the most important ones in your signature
* Add a "more..." to your signature
* Make that a link to your entry in the best times topic

Problem solved?

This solution doesn't require a moderator to gather/edit your times.
It allows for 1 central topic where anyone can see all times from others.
It allows others to see your most important times on every post you make.
And you can change your times and signature as often as you want.

Also, it makes sure I don't have to see huge signatures with times in them

But then there would be non-uniformity between members' times! :eek:

I hope that's a sarcastic EEK because I really don't see the problem with that.

*Smacks face a few times and shakes head*

The thing I would want to see that this would lack would be organization... you can't sort this or skim through it easily for quick comparisons of people. I'd still like to see this as a feature instead of just a popular thread.

For non-uniformity, just change PJK's initial post to a template, or something...

Ah, I now understand your point of view Mr. van Galen, that could work, but it is still "messier" than having a chart in your profile. It would also require me to have a signature, and to have to view others' signatures if I wanted to see their times.

Thanks for understanding Dene and JBCM627 (do you have that smacking and shaking on video? I want to see prove)

Yes, this isn't the perfect solution. Having a generic option in the profile (100 columns or name/value pairs for things like 2x2x2 single non lucky one handed blindfolded under water blablabla would be preferred ;)) would be better, but also very difficult for PJK.

I already proposed a format for the part of your times that you put in the signature
222: 1.23/2.34 || 333: 12.34/23.45 || 444: 1:23.45/2:34.56 || 555: 2:34.56/3:45.67 || 666: 5:59.99/6:00.00 || 777: 9:59.99/10:00.00
puzzle: Single/Average || repeat_for_puzzle2 || repeat_for_puzzle3 || etc || more...

Yet again though, that would be messy (I hate! messy!) and it would mean I would need to have a signature again! (I'm being tidy and not having one :) ).

As for the table, all we need is a simple chart option, and we could do the rest ourselves (I really have no idea how difficult this would be, but it couldn't be that hard right?) All I want is 4 four columns (event, single, average, lucky-single), and maybe 40 rows.

Hey! I helped!!!kinda

anyway, I agree with AvGalen...It may be the most confusing, but least amount of work for pjk

Is it possible to do it on the left. Where the avatar and other stuff is.

There's already the "WCA Profile" link next to each post, showing the person's official results.

We could have a "UWR profile" link there as well, showing the person's results from speedcubing.com's UWR lists. I'm talking with Ron about improvements to speedcubing.com and one is to offer person pages like those you get with the "WCA profile" links, just for the UWRs. I intend this to be available soon.
