It always really was the big 4, and ZZ is by no means a new method if that's what you're implying.

No, it used to be the big four, but for a while now people have generally thought of them as the big 3, with Petrus not included in that. ZZ is definitely better.

I think a tennis analogy would do us quite well here:
CFOP- Roger Federer
Petrus- Rafael Nadal
Roux- Novak Djokovic
ZZ- Andy Murray
I think this works especially well cause CFOP and Petrus have been around for the longest time though while CFOP is still pretty strong, Petrus seems to be slowly dying off, Roux was next and represented a shift in the status quo and ZZ was soon after and just waiting to show how great it can really be as well as being technically most awesome (Murray is acknowledged as one of the best tacticians but he lacks some fitness and power comparitively)
