I saw that your gear cube didn't have the pieces around the centers. Mine does though. Is this just a different type of cube, or is there if not is there a different method for solving it? This would be very interesting, especially hearing from such an experienced solver of a puzzle that doesn't have too much information or too many tutorials about it.

The solving method is nearly the same, but for most of time gear cubes with pieces around center require additional step to recover the center and you just need to do RURURU to solve all the pieces around center. The total number of state of this kind of gear cube is four time compared to my gear cube. The fewest move for gear cubes with pieces around the center is 13 and 12 for mine gear cube.
