I use some weird combination of beginners method and CFOP.

Cross: L2 U' R B' F R' L F' L'

F2L: U2 R U2 R' U' F U2 F' B U' B' (Pair 1)
L U' L' F U2 F' U2 F U' F' (Pair 2)
F' U F U' F' U2 F B' U B (Pair 3)
U2 R U' R' U' F' U2 F U2 F' U F (Pair 4)

OLL: f R U R' U' f' U' R U R' U R U2 R' U2 R U2 R' U' R U' R'

PLL: y U2 R' F R' B2 R F' R' B2 R2 U' M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 U2 M' U2

Lol, I looked at some earlier solves on the thread, and I've realized that I make entirely too many moves. Is it just that CFOP has a high move count or ZZ has a low one? Or perhaps I need to reduce the moves in my intuitive F2L?

CFOP has a slightly higher movecount than ZZ, but yes, your F2L is extremely inefficient. With practice it will get more efficient, nothing to get too worried about.

ZZ is vastly more efficient than CFOP. I can get a linear sub-40 move solution with relative ease (and almost no thinking) with ZZ. With CFOP, I have to spend a far longer time building x-crosses, multislotting, and using commutators to receive similar results. The secret is in the fact that blockbuilding becomes trivial when the blocks can be formed with 2 sides (as in ZZ). Additionally, ZZ last layer options are immaculate in comparison with OLL/PLL.

For me, I'm actually 1-2 htm more efficient with ZZ than I am with Petrus, and this is all with the added bonus that ZZ requires zero cube rotations and minimal regrips.

Also, don't be fooled. My ZZ solutions are a little optimized, and I like to give zero alg solutions for fun.
