I was thinking of hosting a competition and i only have a few questions. 1. where do the tables and stack mats come from? do the delegates have to bring them. 2. ddl you have to have a certain light level/temperature in the auditorium/gymnasium?
thanks for your time.

Hey there.

You should normally supply the tables for the competition. But as for timers/displays, they are available for rent from Speedstacks (PM me when it becomes official, and I can help you out), or you can purchase them. The delegate would normally help you with that.

As for light levels/temperature, it is recommended that you have fluorescent white lighting. When I was testing the light in my school's gym, I just took cubes with some different sticker schemes and solved in there for a bit. I recommend you do the same. Temperature doesn't really matter, but keep it cool or else people's hands get sweaty and it doesn't go so well :P

But of course not too cool, i've noticed it's really hard to cube cold :P

The tables generally come with the venue. Your school probably has some tables you might be able to use if you ask nicely. If the venue doesn't have tables (and chairs!), you'll have to look into renting some from a party supply company or something.

For timers, it sometimes depends where you are. Some areas have clubs that have already purchased loads of timers - talk to your delegate to see if that might be an option. Otherwise, you can rent them from speedstacks or purchase your own, as stated above.

Temperature shouldn't be too big of a worry, as long as it's comfortable to stay in all day, it shouldn't be bad for cubing.

Lighting can be a bit tricky. The best option is usually overhead white fluorescent lights, which are common in schools as far as I am aware. There are two things you want to avoid here - too much yellow light, which makes opposite colors appear similar, and harsh shadows, usually caused by overhead spotlights in venues with a stage.
