It's time for our third surprise challenge! There's only one Golden Rule:

Surprise Challenge Golden Rule) Do the challenge listed below right now.

Clarification of the #1 rule: Don't warm up, don't practice. Just do the challenge right this very moment.

Additional Rules:

1) Don't do the challenge if doing so would put you in a dangerous situation. For example don't do the challenge while driving.

2) If you do not have the puzzle/item/etc. that the challenge requests on your person, and you would like to participate, then you must make every reasonable effort to do the challenge at your very FIRST available opportunity.

3) Post any funny happenings or stories that occur during your challenge.

----------------------------------------------
Ok, here's the challenge!

No Index Fingers!

Do a 3x3x3 average of 5, but neither of your index fingers may touch the cube at any time. The scrambles are listed below, good luck! Remember, you must do the challenge right now.

1) D2 R2 U L2 D' F U2 R2 L2 B F2 L' R' D B R2 U2 D' L B2 R' L2 D2 F2 U
2) R' L D' F2 B2 U2 D2 F B2 D2 R2 B' D L' F2 B2 R2 F' R2 B' L2 U' D B' D
3) L U' R L U' D2 R F R2 U R F2 D' U F2 U' B U B U F2 B U F2 L2
4) B' L B' L R D2 R U2 R' F2 L' D2 U2 L' U' L F' D F R F' R2 B' R L
5) B R F D2 R' L B2 R D2 U' L' F D F U2 B' L2 R2 D R' U2 D R U2 L
----------------------------------------------

Fun Challenges:

If you think the above rules are boring, then feel free to do one or more of the Fun Challenges listed below. You must still complete the regular challenge in order to do one of the variations.

Fun Challenge #1) Do a 3x3x3 solve using only your palms. None of your fingers may touch the cube once you start the solve.

Scramble:
1) R' B' D L2 D L2 D' B' U2 D' B2 F2 R F R2 L2 F' B L2 B2 U2 B2 L' F R

Fun Challenge #2) Do a 3x3x3 solve using only your nose. You may hold the cube in one hand but not turn with that hand. Only your nose may turn faces during the solve.

Scramble:
1) L' D' L' R' D2 U2 F R2 U R' L2 U' R2 U' R' B L' F U' B2 R L B' L' D'

Fun Challenge #3) Do a 3x3x3 solve using only 1 finger. (Recommendation: put the cube on a soft surface). You may touch the cube with nothing other than the one finger.

Scramble:
1) U' F2 R D' B2 D R' L2 F U' D2 R' L B' F2 R L U' B' D' U' L R2 F2 R'

Fun Challenge #4) Come up with your own variation, and tell us about it!

Challenge: (40.61) 25.19 18.88 (17.07) 23.15 = 22.41 seconds average

First solve was just bad

Fun challenge #1: 2:32.81

This one was fun, but it took me a while to realize I could use the table.

Fun challenge #2: 3:04.56

My Mom walked in while I was doing this... Do not take that the wrong way.

Fun challenge #3: DNF

I popped the cube O.o

Fun challenge #2: 3:04.56

We had a large group of people racing this way (turning with nose only) in the after party at Worlds 2007. Needless to say wine was involved for a lot of us who were racing. It was quite fun, but it got some really strange looks from a lot of people.

Challenge: 1:00.20, (1:07.90), (57.39), 58.81, 1:07.01 = 1:02.01
I'm not very good at this. I think part of the problem is I'm really scared of a DNF, so I mostly don't even use my middle fingers and my thumbs to avoid incidental touching.

Fun Challenge #1: 4:39.66
I decided that using the table seemed like cheating, so I did this in the air. I may have had some incidental touching of the bases of my fingers, so it may deserve to be a DNF, but it certainly didn't happen much, because I was really trying not to do it. I think you have to have fairly big hands to even try this, though, since you must grip it in such a fashion as to prevent the middle slice from turning. Or you could use a really stiff cube.

Fun Challenge #2: 5:41.37
My nose is too sensitive for that - I think I damaged it. It doesn't help that I have textured tiles on my cube.

Fun Challenge #3: 10:42.31
I know now that when you said "soft surface", you probably had something like a bed in mind. I was on a hard floor with a firm carpet, and it just wasn't soft enough. It was a major struggle to make each turn. I was so grateful that I got a 6-move OLL - I might have given up otherwise.

Fun Challenge #4: (3x3x3 BLD, no index fingers) DNF (5:25.65, off by 3 edges)
Scramble: B' R U L R B L F U F D2 F D U B D' U B D2 B2 F R2 D U L'
Ugh. I thought I had it.

it is not strange that the firs attempt was the worst, cuz it was the first time ever doing this. 23.28 had an oll-skip =)

Fun challenge #1
3:51.55 it was too difficult...

Fun challenge #2
3:35.38 it was much easier than fun challenge #1, but I mistaked in pll and had to do the last layer again..
