hey I average 40 and finally got sub 30 I am lookin ahead

1 cross
2 F2L intuitive looking ahead
3 2 look OLL
4 PLL 1 look

What is the next step for me, I want to learn more but dont know what else i have to do

It's possible to get your average down to low 20s and even sub-20 using your current method without learning anything new. But if you do want to learn more, 1 look OLL is the logical next step.

The next step would most likely be uhhh learn F2L algorithms. I think you should still try to get faster on your own, because I do the same steps as you, and I average 35 seconds. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I think practicing is more fun than learning algorithms, when your practice works. Well that's your decision so....

What are your individual times for each step?
Mine are....

1: Cross - 5 seconds
2: Intuitive F2L - 20 seconds
3: 3 Look Last Layer ( 2 Look OLL + PLL) - 10 seconds.

F2L algorithms will help decrease your F2L move count GREATLY, because the algorithms are shorter than the intuitive F2L. This means faster F2L times.

After learning the F2L algorithms, I would recommend getting a sub 25 average before learning the reast of the 50 OLL algorithms, because 1 Look OLL will only help you about 4 seconds or less, which I think it isn't worth it because you have to learn 50 algorithms for 4 seconds.....

I don't want to be rude, but your results are nearly unbelievable.

You said in one thread that you went from 2:20 to 0:45 in ONE WEEK. Then you learned all the PLLs in about one week. Now, about 7 to 10 days later, you've dropped to under 30 seconds? Not average but best, which is still ridiculously impressive for someone that was averaging *over* 2 minutes around 2 weeks ago.

IMHO you are either incredibly gifted at the cube, or you aren't being exactly truthful with us. You'll pardon my skepticism I hope; this kind of progress is completely unheard of in my (limited) experience.

I summary, congrats if you're for real, or come clean if you're exaggerating. You are the same guy that was trying to gain reputation by bumping old threads to "get my post count up".

Brian.

I never said I was 2:20 last week. Where did you get that? Could you send me a link to the post?

I got a 43.66 average on April 13, 2008... I wouldn't say that was 7 to 10 days ago. Well that was a pretty nice average that shocked me... so I said my average was 45. I hadn't done another average for about 10 days, so I could have improved then. After those 10 days I got a 43.66 average, I kept on saying my average was 45...

I didn't learn ALL the PLLs in one week.... I learned about 14 of them in a week - 2 per day (I had spring break for a week so I was bored and learned them)

Now I have a 34.71 average for the 3x3 (got it yesterday).

What does IMHO mean? I've seen it in a lot of other threads, but I wasn't really in the conversation so I never asked. Could you tell me?

Sorry, when I was bumping old threads (actually by the cooper person), I didn't notice the date. That happened twice :( And pcharles was yelling at me :(
At that time, I had about 250 posts... you really think I was trying to get my post count up? LOL!! I stopped that when I had about 110 posts!

^ PCWiz, my entire post was directed towards Noobcuber, not you.

IMHO means, In My Humble Opinion.

Brian.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That makes A LOT of sense now - never thought of that :D.

And yes, I would agree with you, noobcuber has had unbelievable results in the past few days....

Thanks for the definition! (IMHO)

umm yeah i am a newbie and i am not trying to get my post count up!!

I think this is unrealistic and annoying.

It is basically impossible to go from 3 minutes to 29.77 (cough, cough) in one week

Please stop lying noobcuber

According to what blgentry said, noobcoober got from over 2 minutes to 29.77 in more than 3 weeks, not one. It is possible to get it in a little more than three weeks, if you have really good instruction and you are given a lot of tips. (Noobcuber has asked A LOT of questions these past few days). Besides, his PB could be a 3 step skip or something. I don't know, he could have gotten super lucky. The point is, even if he is lying, don't be so mean to him. He's not being mean to you, so don't be mean to him. He's gotten a lot of insults lately, (even if he deserved it), but don't be a mean person and make him feel bad.

No this is all true I am just really addicted and play with it all the time and have been doing alot of research and doing all I could to get faster.

It took me 2 nights to go from 2 mins to 1 30 then another 3 nights untill sub min. THEN i learnt algs PLL in a week and F2L and got to average 40 ish and today it wasnt a lucky solve but I got F2L and cross in 13 secs

So its all true, but lol look at Chris Harris, sub 20 in 3 months without any algs

Hello from 2 mins not three and considering I was doing LBL WITH the slowest LL mthod in the world and I changed to F2L, learnt PLL AND PRACTISED LIKE HELL I think it is possible and I aint lying believe wat u wanna believe.

I have a maths brain ok thats how I leanr all the algs so fast I can master an alg in 5 mins and if I dial a phone number once it is stuck in my brain, semi photographic but on a smaller scale, numberl patterns etc.

One more thing guys okay so when I first joined I wanted to bumb up my posts, IM SORRY that was a momentary stupd thing where I thought if you were a member then you were better than a senior member.
FORGIVE ME PLEASE!!! I"M OVER IT

I would suggest not caring about what other people say. Just stick to yourself. No matter what someone else says mean about you, don't listen to it (well don't do your mistake again, you should listen to that). If people say you're lying, and YOU know you're not lying, then don't worry about it. They're being mean to you, and that's there problem (although you need to fix your mistakes). They should learn to be a nice person. If you say "oh I'm not lying" (in my opinion), you sound like a jerk (no offense - it's kind of funny). You're working really hard, and you deserve to be that fast (if you really are). Don't let anybody stop you. It's your business, not there's (just try not to ask questions you can solve by logic, and try not to do stupid things, and you're good.) You don't have to tell people you're right, you just have to show them (I hope that makes sense).

Also, if you want people to stop saying mean things to you, I'll give you some tips.
1. Before you ask a question that you're more than 50% sure about, try to keep quiet for a while. Some day, another person might as the question, or you may find out, and you won't get humiliated. You could probably have hundreds of questions you're not sure about - try to answer them yourself. The members of this forum aren't servants to serve you.
2. Before you ask a question, as yourself, can I answer this myself? For example, you asked "is there a difference between a new type A DIY and an old type?" I think you can figure that out. Another one: is a 4x4 more challenging or a 5x5? Okay people are saying a 5x5 is harder, but you said it just takes more time. Challenging and harder are not EXACTLY the same. A challenge can be something that can take long. Harder means if something is more difficult. So a 5x5 is more of a challenge than a 4x4, because it takes longer to solve. It is ALSO harder, because there are many more cases on a 5x5 than a 4x4, and you have to do some different things. Making the centers is a little more difficult, because you have to put in more pieces without breaking up the others, ect. This question ties in with number one.
3. Don't say anything that doesn't have a good meaning - meaning don't spam.
4. Don't say anything if you don't know what is going on in the thread.

This might be the dumbest post you're ever heard people, but I hope it influences noobcuber, and helps him become a better forum member.

The next step would most likely be uhhh learn F2L algorithms...

Completely unnecessary. If you're already working on intuitive F2L, there's no point learning F2L algorithms. except for a few cases where it's not so intuitive. I learned a grand total of 3 F2L algorithms. The rest I figured out intuitively.

Also, back in the day I learned all my PLLs in a week and dropped my average from over two minutes to a little over a minute in a couple of weeks. And this was back before everyone and their mom had YouTube tutorials, and before I discovered online forums about cubing (which would have been pretty obscure at the time too). So it's not impossible.

Okay you've got a good point, but I'll tell you why I'm suggesting to learn F2L algorithms. What is your average F2L move count, and your average entire cube solve? (Just do it like 5 times). I would like to know, because you're pretty fast, and the Fridrich method averages like 55 moves every solve....

Anyway, I do my F2L intuitively, and I average like 55 moves ALONE with F2L. I can see in a lot of cases, I waste like 2 seconds on each slot trying to separate already joined but oriented incorrectly pairs, and then trying to join them again without messing anything else up. That takes me like 15 moves, when each slot should have like 7 moves....

OK I will do a solve now and thebn post my move count total and for F2L and my break down of moves is

1. cross 5 secs
2. F2L 20 to 25 secs is the usual but I never take mroe than 32 secs for cros and F3 LL takes 10 to 15 and the vary accordingly to give me my average

In my sub 30 solve I did F2L and cross fast because I managed to execute a multislot and I got them both in 15 secs , OLL was slow cuz I mucked up but regrouped and I got an easy PLL 3 edge cycle

So thats my cubing

Move count coming soon

Move count- (SOLVE I JUST DID)

Cross- 4 moves (normally about 7 moves)
F2L- 30 move( normally about 35 to 40)
LL- 28 (made up of 3 Algs)

so total norm about 70 moves I move my fingers very fast

when I look ahead i always get my average and have a standard deviation but when I dont look ahead that is when i get my best times but also my worst times so I need to get faster at looking ahead for consistency

When i got addicted and started learning hardcore, I went from 1:30 to 40 in one week...

anyway, I'm using F2L and 3lookLL and im averaging 23ish and I still have A LOT of room for improvement.

Algorithms=/=speed

Do some F2L ONLY solves and time them, try to hit a 25sec F2L, then 20.......

And ONE SOLVE does not mean you are sub30.
