d is a move such as D, but you also grab the slice above it. So it is basically equivalent to U y' . l and r are similar. l is like L, but also grab the slice with it, equivalent to R x' . M is a middle slice. If you are looking at the cube, it is the slice between the left and right slices. I have some applets on notation here. There is also some good notation information here.
