Yesterday, I was bored at a christmas party with the family and decided, heck, lets try this with only one hand. It did take me awhile, but I am getting the hang of it. I would like to know where to start exactly, I am using the same algorithms as my 2H solves, so that might be a place I could change, but I altered a few of them so I could perform them easily. I also rotate my cube around a lot (I always tell others to keep the cube in the same spot when doing moves, but with OH I found it much easier to rotate around on my first few solves, and I could recognize where I was to begin with anyway.) anyway, all suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sure by the time anyone reads this I will have videos on my website showing how I hold and turn my cube OH and how loose my OH cube is. I also have all my PLL algs there.
When learning algs try to avoid algs with M turns like the plague. I try to minimize cube rotation by learning more F2L tricks to pair up the C/E different ways then I would normally do it to try to avoid cube rotations. Go slow and think through your F2L and search for ways to do it with out rotating the cube. Of course the cube inevitably does have to be rotated a few times but cutting them down can help.

I would strongly recommend practising basic finger tricks like U L (or U' R' depending on the hand). I do quite a few cube rotations, and can get well under one minute with it. I am not too advanced, so I think I could help a bit.... play a lot with it, eg. while sitting watching tv or whatever, just have it in your hand and randomly scramble it a whole lot, solve in the adds. get your fingers used to holding the cube, and getting used to the tiring. I wouldn't bother changing algorithms too much early on, unless you think you can learn some quick ones. You won't get your time down with the last layer until you get the hang of it first. When I started doing it properly, I quickly went from one minute F2L + 45 second LL to sub-30 F2L, sub-30 LL. Now I'm at the point where learning new algorithms would help, but definitely until you have the hang of the rotations and such, there is not too much need.... Well that's my advice anyway, hope that helps. A week of serious practise and you could be faster than me....

Another problem is my cube, I'm using the same one I use for 2H and its just a store bought rubiks. It tends not to turn far enough at times, which will cost me between 5-30 seconds each solve. I will practice some more today.

i have started OH recently as well (my first time/ best time is in my sig) i dont know if my time is decent for a person who just started or if i just am horrible at OH-ing....

Ya, It just seems like my cube is still to tight for OH solving, I mean its perfect for 2H, but for OH it is just a slight bit to tight. I have been using it quite a bit for about 3 months as well as using CRC, I don't know, maybe I just like mine looser =-). In this case, would you suggest I get another DIY kit for just OH solves?

Depends how much you like OH. In my case I set my only cube super loose for OH (you can see how loose it is on my website/youtube) and just had no 2H cube. I still have no 2H cube. But for Christmas I ordered another cube to use as a 2H cube.

I have my OH cube much more loose than my 2H cube. A good cube helps. And yeah, just work on the finger tricks, and practice. Practice doing R U R' U', etc. I have a video on youtube w/ OH finger tricks, just some minor stuff, but it may help. My ID is "pjkcards". Good luck.

OH is so much fun.

Especially in the beginning your times drop like crazy. My first attempts took about 2:30 minutes, but I got it down to about 1 minute within weeks. I am now pretty decent at it (sub-30 lucky, 37 non-lucky, 43 average) if you consider all the rotations and moves I need (keyhole + 4 look last layer)

I think only some people have gotten really good at it yet and that we will see some amazing results for OH next year

Yes, I am hoping to try BLD as well as this. I just order a new DIY kit to go along with the one I just got, but it will be JUST for OH. I am having trouble getting those dang tiny caps on the edges though. Any suggestions?
