Hey all,
EP is a really time consuming step in solving the square-1 using the Vandenbergh's method.
I'm pretty sure different solvers have different approaches in solving it depending upon the number of algs they know and also depending on the speed with which they perform the algs.
Choosing the right alg while solving is important, which comes with experience and practice.
This thread is to discuss on what is the best way to solve some cases and also for people to write down their own approach.
Ofcourse some cases are really fast and easy like just U perms or Z perms on one layer
There are some EP cases which I really hate and are time consuming for me,ofcourse I can learn algs for them but I hate learning a lot of algs and maybe some smart solving here might help
Note that case on the left is the cases on U layer and case on the right is the case on D layer
1) adj-U,opp-Z,H-adj and all other cases which fall under the same category where there is just an edge swap on one layer and a 3x3 PLL on the other layer ,One could just use the adj-adj or opp-opp alg to solve either the U or D layer completely, but that would leave us with a single layer parity EP on the U or D layer which always sucks.Which algs are really worth learning for such cases? I'm not sure if just one fast alg which solves the parity and then doing 1 or 2 more algs to solve completely is a good idea,is it worth learning a lot of algs for such cases?
2) U-Z,Z-Z,Z-H,Z-U etc : both U perm and Z perm on square 1 are fast, but doing one,and then another after doing a z2 or a layer swap can take time.So is an alg for such cases really worth learning?
3)W-O,W-W,O-O,O-W : This can be converted into the type of cases mentioned above using an adj-adj or opp-opp alg. Then again we have to continue doing 3x3 PLLs on both layers unless we are lucky.
So how really would you go on for solving such cases?
