Some guidance?

Okay, so I am new here, but not really new to cube. I have been able to solve the cube for a couple years now. I used to average around 3 minutes with a layer by layer method and have brought that average down to a consistent 1:08-1:15. Seems like nothing I do makes me faster. I have the most trouble with looking ahead. Most often during a solve I find myself frantically looking for pieces I just can't seem to find. I am also familiar with how to do finger tricks (I can actually do a majority of the layer by layer alga pretty fast), I just spend so much time looking for what I need.

So now that you know the position I am in, can anybody point me to some good threads to read? Should I stick with layer by layer and move to maybe an advanced Friedrich method or go to something like Petrus or Roux? I began Petrus and liked the way you solved it from what I had learned. But my main problem is finding what I need when I need it. What contributes the most to my long solve times occurs in the cross and f2l part of my solve, where I am having to find pieces. The rest of my solve is much faster.

Thank you for all help and hopefully I can get below 40 seconds.

Okay. It is overall pretty pathetic but hopefully it will help you guys find my problem.

I would say learn a speedsolving method. Layer by layer is no fun at all. If you don't know what method to choose, try Fridrich, Petrus, ZZ and Roux and choose your favorite.

Also, you may want to get rid of that droid bionic thing at the end of your posts.

Thanks for the advice noahaha, and I didn't even realize it put that at the bottom of my posts until now lol. Thanks. I had some difficulties getting the video recorded but I finally got it but it is taking a bit to upload to YouTube. Thanks again guys.

If you're having trouble finding pieces then you need to slow down. It's tempting to do fast inserts when you get them but most of the time a slow smooth solve will get you a better time. Do you know how many moves it usually takes you to do the first two layers?

practice slow turning
aka, solve the cube slow and don't worry about the time, that way you get an idea of where you should look

also just realized you said you were still doing LBL, yeah might as well pick up some speedsolving method, be it CFOP/Roux/ZZ/Petrus/whatever, it's fun to learn methods anyway :>

This is my example solve. I had trouble finding a way to prop my phone up while keeping the cube in the video so it may be hard to tell what I am doing. I started with the green side on the bottom and solved the cross and first side on the bottom. I of course went to f2l and solved from there. This was actually a PB for me at 1:07 where my previous was 1:08. Yay!

Put your phone in a tissue box, works for me :D

I presume you haven't bothered learning a speedsolve method because you want to get as fast as you can on LBL, however you have met a wall. Don't bother on working on lookahead as you can easily get sub 40 with a good TPS and a low move count, the fastest and easiest way to do this is to learn a new method - be it fridrich or roux. ZZ also has a low move count but can be quite tricky to go from from LBL.

Look at badmephisto's vids on learning fridrich and within a week you should crack it, if it doesn't suit your style then I'm sure other cubers (most notably roux users) I'm sure will be able to point you in the right direction with another method. However, fridrich is the most similiar to LBL.

You could also try to learn 2-look OLL and PLL, that was one nasty EP recognition in your vid...

Do you know any good oll and pll guides? And ep recognition? Not sure what you mean by that. Sry

Thanks guys for all of the help. I actually found badmephisto's guides before and started looking into them. I also saw his blindfolded guide, that really caught my eye :D That is my next step after getting a faster regular solve. Thanks again guys, really helpful.
