Hi everybody
My friend at school had got a 4x4 cube and tried solving it LBL he got about halfway there last time i saw him and i dont know if hes given it up or not but that set me off wondering if you really could do that.

Any NxNxN puzzle can be solved layer by layer, but I don't suggest it. It takes a lot of moves and a lot of time compared to good methods.

K4 is not a layer by layer method but I can see the resemblance. It is an advanced method and averages of under a minute are quite possible with it.

I can do first three layers lbl (without starting with centres) with line my own made up algs and what not but last layer is too hard for me :-( lol but I'm sure that it's possible so i guess if I was able figure out three layers then someone will have managed last layer (cuz I'm really not that cube clever)

I tried this once. Did it this way:
Make 1rst layer.
Make second layer centers.
Make 2nd layer edge pairs and insert 2.
Use last 2 F2L slots to make remaining edge pairs.
Finish F2L.
Finish LL.

I can do this. I make the first layer by doing the first center, then pairing up the edges for the top, and solving the first side. then I do the 2nd layer centers, so really the u layer centers. I then put in the edges that complete the F2L. Then I put in the d layer centers, than the d layer edges. Lastly, I pair the D layer edges, and fix parity, than solve with regular LL. The LL is kind of cheating, but it's all I could think of. I also did this with a 5x5, which was a good deal harder.
