On 20th March there will be a Solar Eclipse taking place, which will be visible for all of Europe and a portion of Asia and Africa.

The closest areas with large populations to be affected are the North of England and Scotland, and all of Greenland. It will also be very visible in the north of Finland, Sweden and Norway.

How close are you guys to it?

If you live in the US, you will get a solar eclipse in August 2017, the first one on the mainland US since 1979. And an other one in the mainland US in 2024.

And if you live in Australia, you will have to wait to July 2028 for one. But the wait will worth it. The centre line of totality will pass directly over Sydney.

We had a small area clear that let us see it for about half an hour, but we got bored after 15 minutes, and we had to go back to a lesson. I looked at it for longer than I should have done; I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow blind.

But it wasn't really that exciting, because to me, it just looked like the moon, except sideways.

It was the usual weather-induced disappointment here in the South of the U.K. 85% coverage by the moon, 100% coverage by a load of clouds. Rubbish. It was a bit dark and overcast at 8 a.m, and a bit darker and overcast at 9:30.

The BBC coverage said The Moon was 400 times closer than The Sun =(

I booked the day off of work, woke up at 8:30, saw the ridiculous cloud cover and went back to sleep.
