Slowing down with new methods

Right now, I'm transitioning to new methods on a few puzzles--most notably with l4e on pyraminx. I know that my times will certainly be slower at first, but how long does it typically take to better adjust to a new method? Are there any good ways to help with the process?
The way it was for me with Yau on 4x4, the transitioning and adjusting process took around 3 weeks before I was comfortable it, but I recommend doing a TON of untimed solves so you can remember the steps. Pyraminx is a short event, so i don't think slow solves would help that much, but on larger events and with methods like Yau that has so many steps, untimed solves would help a lot. Slow solves is basically what you should be doing mainly, as it would help to improve the jntuitive parts of the solve. Also watch example solves of the New methods at different levels, like beginner example solves up to advanced.

Good luck!
