[Unofficial] Shane Rowland, 2x2 - 4 sec "nonlucky" (LOL)

I don't understand how one can take so long doing a 2x2 avg/5 without even talking.
Sure, some people go on and on about their solves, how this and that was this and that, but he just makes facial expressions and stares at the screen. :/

Anyway, hopefully he's learned his lesson, and Nationals doesn't turn out badly.

He calls himself that because a lot of deaf people in different places around the world know about him because he participates on the US Deaf Olympics team for long distance running. He's also well known at his school for his cubing. He doesn't realize that it sounds(no pun intended, srs) cocky when he calls himself that.

I think the fact that hes deaf is rather irrelevant. We aren't making fun of him because hes deaf. Were making fun of him because he's pretending to be faster than he really is, and he's doing a really bad job at it.
 
link2link25 on these forums and my irl friend has him on facebook, and his grammar is hysterical at times. He even came to Michigan and wanted to meet him O_O Creeper.

And also, I don't think he doesn't think it's cocky to say "world famous deaf rubiks", because in his messages, he clearly places himself above others.
 
If Shane wants this to become a popularity contest, he's doing it for the wrong reasons and doing it in most stupidest ways. Go ahead and let him be"Famous Deaf Rubik." As far as I care, he can only really be recognized in competition where he already made a bad name for himself and for future deaf cubers as a precedent for them. Its just like the new Kuti.

I can tell you I was doing honest work when I did this event. This was my first time doing the event, and Shane was only telling me the rules as I am not experienced in various competitions yet. I've only played 2x2, 3x3, 3x3 OH, 4x4, pyraminx, and magic up til this competition.

The method I used to solve the FMC was clearly Petrus, as my speedsolves are all Petrus. I was at second, a Fridrich user but I eventually came to dislike that method and found Petrus much more efficient. Apparently, in FMC you need to be extremely efficient. So basically, block-building was the ideal strategy along with OLL and PLL. In this particular solve, I managed to skip OLL,and then did a PLL which equalled into 30 moves.

Some of you may ask why I have an average of 50 seconds speedsolving the 3x3. It is true that I could have gone lower, in fact my personal best was 30 seconds and I should have averaged 40 seconds but I did not. When I speedsolve, I try to look for optimal moves but I tend to end up missing some ideal moves due to the fact I still feel tense from being watched by a judge. My hands are not that fast either compared to most of you guys, which means I still have a lot of practice turning the cube quickly (without popping the cubies, even! Or I might need a really good cube... )

Just because I lack speed does NOT certify that I lack the ability to optimize my solves. I have been practicing fewest moves on my own.

If you all are wondering, Shane only showed me how to do the Fridrich method and that was where I eventually picked up on speedcubing. I came to favor Petrus much more than Fridrich.

It was definitely rude to say at that time.
It is also true, in my opinion, and there really is no 'good' time to say such things, apart from irl.

The thing that generally annoys me is that every time someone says something about him not being special, he either says the contrary, or simply puts in smileys to deter people from expressing their opinions, because they will probably feel bad for doing so.

Personally, I have no enemy with him in the fact that he thinks he's special - plenty of people arbitrarily call themselves special, and he is not special in doing so. As a friend of his pointed out, "Have u notice people say" first African American" or something like that. Shane isn't asking for special treatment because he is deaf." If I'm interpreting that correctly, I think that agrees with the above?

Shane doesn't seem to go out of his way to annoy people - he just seems to be under the impression that people love him for being a deaf cuber, and by what I can see, many do, and he therefore has this right, I guess.
 
Ok, from reading this thread and using prior threads about him I have come to this conclusion.

Attacking Shane makes people attack you from the "don't pick on a deaf guy" side.
Defending Shane makes people attack you from the "It has nothing to do with being deaf" side.

Can we all just agree that he's cocky and leave it at that? I think that answers whatever questions people are bringing up.
