sDLfj's Progression Thread

I did a mbld attempt for the weekly comp: 2/3 in 29:53, which is my first success. I completely messed up the edges on one of the cubes because I forgot which order my objects were in (roman rooms). But, overall I'm happy with it. I also have a mbld success before a 3bld success on this site, lol.

Goals for my next comp on the 22nd and 23rd. My current average is in parenthesis next to my goal average.

3x3:
Single: Sub-20
Average: Sub-20 (19-20s)

2x2:
Single: Don't really care, sub-5
Average: Sub-7 (5.5)

4x4:
Single: Make cutoff, 1:10
Average: Get an average, so 1:10 (1:15)

5x5:
Single: Make cutoff, 2:15
Average: Get an average, 2:15 (2:35)

3BLD:
Single: Get success
Average: lol (4:30, but mainly DNF's)

OH:
Single: Make cutoff, 40s, unlikely, but I don't care
Average: Get an average, 40s (50s)

Clock:
Single: Sub-12
Average: Sub-15 (14)

Pyra:
Single: PR, 6.78
Average: PR, 8.49 (8.5)

Skewb:
Single: Sub-10
Average: 12s (12)

I feel like I've been wasting my time trying to make cutoff on 4x4 and 5x5. I have a comp next month with those events and lenient cutoffs, so I'm going to start focusing on events that aren't in the comp next month (mainly 3BLD because I want a success).

3BLD pb: 4:20.82

Any tips for someone who want to learn BLD soon? I don’t understand how memo works.

Any tips for someone who want to learn BLD soon? I don’t understand how memo works.
It helped me to learn 2bld first. Just keep in mind that the letter that you memo goes to the buffer, which then goes to the next letter you memo. Practice twisted corners sighted this way until you understand them. When you memorize a piece that goes to the buffer, stop memo. Then, if there are still pieces that you haven't memorized a letter for, just memo a sticker from any of them, then continue until you reach that piece again (the piece you started the new cycle with, not the buffer).
It's one of the things that are super hard to understand, but it's really a simple concept once you figure it out. If you don't understand it, then I can post a scramble and the letters to memo explaining what each one does.

It's not really progression, just an interesting solve. I saw an interesting solution to a 2x2 scramble using the belt method, and since there wasn't a super easy face and I knew there wouldn't be PBL, I decided to try it.

I had my first day of comp today.
4x4:
1:12.4 single, cutoff was 1:10...

5x5:
2:28.06 single, cutoff was 2:15

3BLD:
Triple DNF, 1 solve was only 2 edges off, since I didn't memo the last letter. I also completely forgot to erase the logo on my cube, so I had to borrow a Tornado V3, which resulted in an execution error on my last solve.

Clock:
14.30 average and 10.40 single
On the first solve I accidentally solved the first cross upside down, and I had to go back and fix it, 18.67. On the 4th solve, I hit a pin going to pick it up. The counting 18 is what killed my average.

18.67 10.40 11.34 DNF 12.90

After the second day I'm happy with my results:

2x2:
6.17 Average. I'm happy with this.

3x3:
19.94 average. Barely got sub-20. Also got a 16.53 single, which is crazy.

Pyra:
8.46 average PR, 5.05 single PR. Pretty happy with these since I think I got worse at Pyra since my last comp.

Skewb:
Some super lucky scrambles, which I messed up. 10.60 average, 7.37 single.

OH:
Did terrible, but I don't care, 1:00.26 single.

I'm starting to get ready for my next comp in mid August.
I'm practicing 3x3-7x7 and mega.
The cutoff times are very lenient, but I'm still going to practice mainly big cubes and mega for a while (hopefully it will also help my lookahead).
I'm thinking about learning OLL for 3x3, CLL for 2x2, and full L4E for pyra.

I've set almost all my records for 6x6, 7x7, and mega.

6x6:
Single: 5:35.55
Mo3: 5:55.76
Ao5: 6:07.64

7x7:
Single: 9:50.86
Mo3: 10:31.57
Ao5: 11:08.14

Mega:
Single: 3:55.68
Mo3: 4:07.81
Ao5: 4:11.50

Also, I'm sub-13 on clock.

I've been struggling to improve on 3x3, so I'm trying to consciously turn faster and make more efficient crosses. I'm planning on learning full OLL, because I calculated splits for 3x3 and my OLL takes 3.5s while my PLL takes 3.9s.
