Rubik's cube's center piece

Hey!

I just wanna ask, why are the Rubik's cube's
center pieces a little bit deeper than the other
pieces?

I don't know if any of you has the same thing, but ..

not on my rubik's cubes...

Have you modded your cube? If you sand down the interior of the pieces on a "storebought", the edges and corners will sit slightly further from the core.
