Request an F2L alg!

Any good alg for this case without F moves and rotations?

F2L28.png

I think the sane thing to do (because of move count) is to go ahead and eat the rotation at the beginning, like so:

y' R' U R U' R U R'

Although I'm guilty of pulling the following stunt sometimes:

R U2 l U' R' U l'

Assuming that such a pair is anywhere on the cube

Whats the best solution to this case to prepare a 3 move insertion and then insert it in the required slot

i know of R U R' U' R U R' and (U R U' R') x 2 To pair them up

which is 8 + 3 moves of the insertion = 11 moves

Is there any better solution if the F2L slots are open(empty) i.e this is the first F2L pair

If BR is open: R U2 R' U' R' U2 R2 U R but that's not much better. You might as well stick to (R U R' U') x3 (or without the final U'). It's very sub1-able and look ahead does not suffer.

I almost always do:

U' (F R' F' R) U' R U R'

Get good at the hedgeslammer...and then adjust for whatever slot you're targeting.

I wouldn't necessarily say this is a better solution, but it can be useful.

setup (U') +pairing R U R' U' R U R' +insert (U R U' R') / (R' F R F')

Basically you turn it into one of the "Pair Made on Side" F2L cases, then insert it however is best for the next F2L pair or any edge control you may be working on. This is obviously a similar algorithm to the one you posted, with a similar move count; however the pieces end up paired and ready for any insertion.

Another positive is that the corner piece can be in any location on the U layer, as long as the cross colour is facing up. So rather than moving the corner to above the edge +(sexy move)3, you can just begin from where the corner is when you notice the F2L case. It is also relatively easy to perform when the edge piece is in a different location than FR.

I hope this helps and isn't some obvious simpleton basic cubing 101 stuff.

Use the one-answer question thread please for questions like these next time, please!

Don't you see the date of the post, its 26-11-2010 (last year)

Sorry friend but you are too late this time :P better luck next time

And does it really itch you that much If I ask for help with tips and tricks for F2L and I make a thread for it?

:fp my bad

You've just got to get them out of the top layer by twisting it up, getting it out of the way and twisting the layer back down again. Now that the two pieces are in the top layer, you've just got to separate them and make and edge and corner pair!

Is there any good algorithm for this case when green is on the front, currently i do L' U' L U L' U' L which is super slow

Also,I have another question,You must might have always been in a situation during your cubing career when you can find nothing during your F2L,you kinda get stuck in the middle of your solve, mostly this happens when a lot of the F2L edges and corners are not in the U layer, what are your backup plans for such awkward situations? How do you handle them?

The first thing I saw was that I could do F U' F' U F U' F'; you can perform that as y' R U' R' U R U' R'.
Or, y' R U' R2 F R F'.

I saw that error, I was like did you mean to put a cube rotation after the making the pair? But you posted this image instead :P

You say that L' U' L U L' U' L is "super slow." Are you just bad with turning with your left hand? That's basically two left handed sexy moves. You should be able to do SM from ALL angles with BOTH hands. You should definitely be mostly ambidextrous during your F2L, that way it saves rotations. You can do it right handed if you feel like y2 R' U' R U R' U' R, but if it's in the FL, I wouldn't waste a rotation on that.

I can tell you though that I don't think you can do it any shorter without a rotation.
