Reduction to Cross transition on 4x4

Does anyone have some tips on reducing cross time after finishing edge pairing
as I find myself startled and making my cross take a lot longer than it should

I make the cross while edge pairing so I have no transition. It's really helpful.

Practice 3x3 with no inspection.

If you only use one cross then watch it as you are solving the last pair or two. If you are colour neutral then just pick a colour and go for it. Don't waste about.
