ok, here it goes,
1- does anyone know where there are beginners competitions in Illinois? if so tell me please

2- if you guys know where to buy a 4x4, snake, and other products, i would like to know

THANKS!!

1- there are no such things as a beginner competition. All competitions are for everyone. You missed the US Open which was in Chicago and I guess the closest one after that was Minnesota. Right now, I don't think there's any competitions coming up until Cornell in the spring. That's the only one that's not in California that I know will happen.

2- I know that some store like Target started selling the snake under the new name "twist." Toys 'R Us probably has them too, and I know they have 4x4s and 5x5s. I would go there or rubiks.com for purchases.

ok thanks, so are there different levels in the competitions or something or what? im not that familiar with this kind of stuff... i did post a video on youtube though, just look up slncuber21 and it will probably show up(im not the fastest at this so if you want to fast forward, you can)

also do you know how much the twists are now at target or something? if you do thanks if not its fine :)

Hello ! Competitions are open to everyone and no, there is no different levels. For example, you may have people solving the cube in 2 minutes competing with people soving it in 10 seconds. The fact is that you generally don't compete against other people, you just compete against you, meaning that you try to improve your times... At least, that the way I see it.
Concerning your video on youtube, I think you can improve just by training a bit.

I like to think of it being a lot like your typical 5K runs. Most people who compete in 5K runs are just ordinary average people who are into running for fitness or just for fun. So they go ahead and compete in 5K runs just to see if they can better their previous times, or whatever. I guess in 5K runs they tend to have awards for age and sex categories, but most people who compete in them don't even have a chance of winning in their category, much less overall. (I've done a couple of 5K runs, and I'm unfortunately in the 40-50 year old male category, which is almost always the fastest group, so the categories hurt me instead of helping me.) So clearly they're not competing to try to win - they're just competing to see how well they can do.

hey thanks guys for responding but i want to know one thing...

where is the closest one to Illinois? or when is the one in Chicago? im so clueless... please help:confused:

That is a good question. Those of us who live near Chicago were lucky that they decided to hold the US Open in Chicago this year. There's certainly no guarantee it will be there again next year. (I'm guessing there's very little chance of it, actually, although I still hope they do. Or maybe they could move it to Indianapolis. :) )

Other than the US Open, there really haven't been any competitions anywhere nearby. The closest one is probably in Rochester MN, about 6 hours away. But that one just happened a month ago, so you may have to wait a whole year before the next one there. There's also a fairly regular one in Chatahoochee GA, but that's a 12 hour drive from Chicago. (It's closer to Indianapolis, so it's probably the closest one I can get to.)

In general, if you're really desperate to get to a competition near you, your best bet is probably to organize one yourself (and that's a lot of work, so please show appreciation to whoever has organized a competition you're attending). But if you've never been to one, you need to work with someone who has before you can organize it, so it's kind of difficult. You might have to travel to get to your first one.
