There are 2 main approaches to solving Second Block, so which do you use and why?

The approaches:
1. Blockbuild a square, then solve a pair
2. DR then 2 pairs

Personally I do DR then 2 pairs, but I'm curious what you all think.

Theoretically, solving a square can save moves as opposed to DR then pair. But it makes lookahead more difficult going into the last pair.

Another benefit of solving DR is that it's easier to influence DR during First Block.

I mean solving DR + a Pair IS block-building a square. I understand what you mean but when you think about it, building a square is really just solving "DR + a Pair" without bias ( Colour Neutral so to speak - treating FR BR and DR as all the same and connecting a corresponding corner edge pair ). Really, the only way to build a square is to connect a center edge pair and a corner edge pair ( or vise versa ). Once you understand this, look-ahead isn't any different and you can influence any of the three center-edge pairs equally. Linear DR + 2 Pairs is really just a bad habit from CFOP and a misunderstanding of what block-building is.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about =>

Scramble: D B2 F2 U' R2 D2 U B2 D' R2 F2 L' D2 U2 B L' B' L U' F U

x' z2 L U' L' F R' F' R D' // FB (8)
r2 U' r U' r // 1x2x2 Square (5/13)

Now if we take the same scramble and just put an L at the start.. L D B2 F2 U' R2 D2 U B2 D' R2 F2 L' D2 U2 B L' B' L U' F U..
and input the same solution, you'll see that building the Square is just solving DR with a Pair.

What you are describing I don't really consider blockbuilding, just solving psuedo-pairs. Pseudo pairs have all the same cases and solutions as regular pairs.

Here's an example that is more akin to real blockbuilding

Scramble: U2 L' U F2 L2 D B2 L2 B2 D B2 R2 D2 R' F' L' B' U2 L D2 F2

x' y2 L' U L D R U M2 B2 r B' // FB
r' U' M2 U' r U' r // square

You solved DR and inserted the pair. What's your point? Is your definition of SB blockbuilding, anything that doesn't put DR in DR as the first step is blockbuilding?

If you put DR in DR before anything every time, you're just being inefficient.

A pseudo block in Roux is when, upon finishing the block, you're left will NMCMLL.

It doesn't matter what you think, your definition of "pseudo-pairs" is indeed blockbuilding.

Pretty much yeah.

Pair building is a subset of blockbuilding. With pair building, you still end up with blocks, but the way you get blocks is focused around building pairs.

I was just showing an example where the pair and DR are explicitly solved at the same time, therefore not pair building.

I'll let the readers look through your posts and see the contradictions.

Have a nice day!

I think your misunderstanding what pseudo is. In my example it's pseudo if and only if my final pair is NOT dBR pair. I never provided a solution for the final pair so this is moot.

In your example our SB solutions are identical in approach: create a corner edge pair, pair a edge with the R center, connect the center edge pair and corner edge pair to create a 1x2x2. In your example, your corner edge pair is dBR pair and the center edge pair is the DR center pair. In my example, my corner edge pair is the fRD pair and the FR center pair. Regardless of how you look at it, a 1x2x2 is made up of a corner edge pair and a center edge pair and solving DR and then a 'F2L' pair is doing exactly that.
