I hate to be that guy, but the answer is relatively simple if you know the basic theory of area. All you need to do is find the area of one of those squares, which is a or 1a. Then, you can multiply that by 3 to get 3a, then divide that by 2 because each small triangle is exactly half the area of one square face. That leaves you with answer C.
