recently i have been debating with myself wether petrolium jelly is good for cubes or not. sure, i put it on my skewb and went from sub minute to sub 30 sec. but is it good for your cubes. i have also had bad experience with cubes popping and getting jelly everywhere.on tuesday, may 3rd at 7:30 I will start a discussion in the puzzle chat room.

Bad. Any petroleum-based products are harmful to cubes (unless you're using it to break-in cubes, and only for a short time).

Well, since you got better times with it, it probably mean that you just needed some lube. Just remove the Jelly and get some CRC, Jig-A-Loo or some 3-in-1 Silicone (Make sure it says "Quick Drying"; It will dry in a couple days, but the results are fantastic!). Like other people said, it's good for breaking in cubes because it collects the cube dust so that it won't clog the cube. It also makes the cube feel smoother so that you won't get arthritis trying to solve it.
