Hello:

I still go to Reddit every day. What happened was that the moderators of the Cubers forum at Reddit were very strict and did't like my threads. They said that one of my threads should've been a post on the Daily thread (and I understood why they said that) and they deleted another one of my threads without any explanation. I stopped going to the Cubers forum at Reddit and found my way here.

I always wanted to be respectful to everybody. On that thread that was deleted I was mainly looking for reassurance that I was on the right track. I have been learning two-look OLL for two months, was still looking at the instructions, and I wanted to know if that was normal. Before my thread was deleted some cubers told me it was, so it's all good. It is now three months and I am still nowhere near knowing the algorithms, and that's ok. I am faster and the moves flow better and feel more familiar. I am not competing with anybody. So what if it takes me 6 months to a year before I can solve the last layer without looking at the instructions?

I look at a variation of this document on my phone to solve the cube: https://www.cubeskills.com/uploads/pdf/tutorials/4-look-last-layer.pdf
For the past month of so, I have also been doing the PLL algorithms of that document, since I have it open on the phone anyway.

Moving on from my experience at Reddit, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, although I have lived in San Francisco, CA, for almost 20 years.

The Rubik's Cube was released when I was an adolescent. I never could solve more that one layer. About two years ago I finally learned to solve it with the Beginner's Method. Soon afterwards I lost interest and stopped solving it. About a year ago I went back to cubing and started learning the Fridrich Method. I'm still working on it, as you should know if you read this. Peace.

There seems to be more of a community here than anywhere else; welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay ;)

its the best online community ive seen. Everyone (bar maybe 0.01% of people here) is very nice, its small enough that you can get to know people and see their posts often across the whole forum, as opposed to in small bubbles of people, but its still very active. If you ask a question people will try to answer it, and not look down on you for not knowing. its a great place =D.

Welcome! To answer your question, I will say it’s normal for that kind of thing to happen :). You will get better at learning algorithms, in the beginning it can be frustrating. And also, even if it does take a year, so what? Every one learns at their own pace. e.g. I stretched out learning COLL over a couple months, when I probably could have done it in a week with dedication ;). Algorithms are not key to getting faster, although they help, your cross and F2L efficiency will do so much more. I average sub 40 with total beginner’s method, all that makes a difference between me and a new cuber is my TPS, lookahead, inspection time usage.

Yeah I had bad experience in other communities in the past, mainly gaming communities.
One time I posted one of my youtube videos on a gaming forum, everyone gave dislike in it and I was banned for 2 years without warning
wth

welcome
