[Unofficial] Oto Aoyagi 3x3Blindfold: 19.88 single

He might be fast but I must say I'm with Ollie on this, that's how it looks to me:

1) Easy scramble, he memorizes it and practices it until his execution is about 12-13 secs.
2) Scramble again, starts the timer, looks around faking memorization
3) He's targeting sub20 so he peeps at the timer to check when to start
4) He solves (amazingly fast) and stops getting a sub 20

Watching other of his videos I think the guy is averaging around 35 seconds and should not be doing this. Of course I could be wrong, but as many people said it looks really strange.

Ok, scramble is obviously very lucky 6/10 and only took me 64 moves to execute (All comms 8-movers except 1 9moves and 1 7moves).

Yet I find it very hard to believe this is true mainly because:
A) Only a few people in the world are capable of sub-20 solves even with this scramble.
B) It's quite unlikely that this was the first solve of his session and if it wasn't then why would he take off his hearing protection between every solve...
C) memo is 6.5s where one second is spend looking at the timer as if to know when he should start.
D) Have you ever seen someone fast memorizing a cube? they usually rotate very much and very quickly to track along the cycle instead of casually scanning every face just once

This doesn't prove that this solve is fake or anything but this is just my "professional" opinion on this case as a decently fast BLDer...
I could be wrong and if I am I apologize. This just doesn't look right to me...

I also think this looks fake. You can see in this mo3 he has that he memorizes by rotating the cube a lot very quickly, with some pauses as well. He also couldn't have memorized the scrambles beforehand because he does the solves consecutively. His other videos seem to be entirely legitimate solves, and he is clearly a good BLD solver, but this definitely looks like it was prepared.

I've never heard of him before, and I'm very impressed at how fast he is. Averaging low 30s or even sub 30 is crazy! I do think this video is fake though, too much preparation for the solve (does he have to do all this for every single video? and he was lucky enough to get single PB?) and the memo is way too calm for how short it is.

Four months ago he posted a 58.xx official single with M2/OP...that's pretty unbelievable improvement, but I guess it's possible. This solve, however, is clearly fake in my opinion.

What I meant is that the timer generated new scrambles, so he couldn't have memorized them before. In this video, the scramble is already there when the video starts, so he could have already tried it before he started filming.

How do you know he used the scrambles shown by the timer and that he didn't manipulate the timer to show prepared scrambles?

tbh I long since gave up caring about cheaters, but I thought I'd at least defend the guy from a couple silly accusations.

1) What's wrong with him going through some "routine" before a solve? Also we don't know what he was doing before the video started; he might have just been taking a pee. Whatever the reason, it's ludicrous to suggest this is suspicious behaviour.

2) You can't really see his eyes. How do you know he isn't having a good look at the cube?

I totally agree with this. I have some silly traditions before every solve because I'm just used to it.

I admit I'm not that good at BLD.. but I still think this is fake. I also thought this before seeing any of the comments, and reading them through carefully, I do agree that it's fake.
I mean he definitely cheated anyway, by clearly looking at the scrambled cube while putting his headphones on.

Man, I really wanted to believe that this solve was real after seeing all the nay sayers, but after watching the video... it really is hard to see how this could be legit...

sorry...

Translation from the comment of the video:
I decided to delete this video the end of this week. Overseas people seem to think that I used some tricks or cheats, but in reality I didn't. However, I would like to apologize that I uploaded such a video that causes misunderstanding.

FYI: He couldn't compete in Tachikawa 3x3 Fest (held last Sunday) because of maximum enrollment, but despite this, he came to the venue and he showed his BLD skill to us. During the lunch break, we saw he got Sub 16!
He said his average is around 30 seconds now.

Let's see his next competition! :)

is it possible this is a video reconstruction?
He did do the solve, and knew it was fast but didn't record it. After thinking about it, came back and recorded the solve already knowing the scramble and kinda faked the memo the best he could which is why he looks at the timer after the memo to see if he faked it ok...

I find this very hard to believe... That would be UWR by more than 2 seconds. Doesn't seem possible to me...

Deleting the video because of skepticism from others would make it seem that much more fake.

The very small amount of reasonable skepticism presented when discussing this video would not be enough to make anyone want to take down such a good solve; unless it was in fact not real.
