I've been working on Ortega lately, and I was wondering if any of you guys out there use it. If you do use it could you give some tips. Memorizing the algorithms was easy, but I'm still not so good at recognizing for the last step.

Recognization for the last step should be pretty easy. Are you talking about the orientation + notch placement step or the part where you place the middle layer edges? Because plaacing middle layer edges only has 3 algs and the second to last step just involves looking to see if the edges are oriented right basically. This is especially easy if you are used to BLD solving or understand the orientation part of BLD systems.

However, I think this system is sort of "old-school." When people first obtained the cube in the 80s many used corners-first systems such as Minh Thai. I am learning it but mostly so I can solve the 2x2x2.

I am pausing my learning though because I have another competition coming up n May 26 in San Diego so it would take some of my practice time away from me. I suggest if you have a comp coming up, you too should pause your learning and continue afterwards.
