Whenever I teach 2x2 with LBL to a beginner, they encounter the same problems
  • Understanding the color scheme on a cube with no fixed centers is not so easy
  • Building a full layer is not so easy for beginners, especially if you have to stick on white.
  • The Algs for T-Perm, J-Perm, Y-Perm or whatever you use for PLL are quite long and hard to remember for beginners
So I thought about the easieast possible method, which could be ortega based.

Step1
Solve the easiest color side with Basic inserts or intuitive.
You don't have to solve a full layer and don't have to know a color scheme.
Usually its just a couple of moves away from one side solved if you can be color neutal.

Step2
Solve OLL with the Corner Flipping Method
R' D' R D (or SexyMove if you turn the Cube Upside down)

For this you have to know the concept of opposite colors, but not the color scheme. If anyone can't remember the opposite colors they can seach for the color that is not in the bottom layer

In Level 2 you can solve OLL with Sune Moves and in Level 3 you can learn OLL

Step3
Use the 1 Bar Case from Ortega to solve the rest of the cube.
I use this alg which is very easy to remember: R U' R F2 R' U R'

If you have one Bar, hold it in front/top of you to solve the cube, if you have two Bars hold them in the top back to destroy one of them.
If you have no bar create one with this alg or learn a very easy second alg: R2 F2 R2

For the layer cases you sometimes have to apply the alg twice or even 3 times if you hold it the wrong way but you can solve the cube quite quickly with those easy algs, and if I count the moves it's even shorter than the normal algs:
T-Perm Case: Hold the layer on the buttom and bar at the back (R U' R F2 R' U R') (R2 F2 R2) -> 10 Turns (T-Perm: R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F' -> 14 Turns)
Y-Perm Case: Hold the layer on the bottom: (R U' R F2 R' U R') put bar on front with U moves (R U' R F2 R' U R') ->15 Turns (Y-Perm: F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F' -> 17 Turns)

From this point you can add some more algs to learn the additional ortega cases, but also with those 2 algs you will be quite fast.

With this method you can start directly with color neutral without learning color schemes or how to build a full layer, and you can solve the cube quickly with very few, very easy algs. Als it will be a short way to full ortega from here.

The disadvantage ot his method is that it doesn't help you much on learning the 3x3.

What do you think about it?
