I never said that. I just said that I didn't want people drawing each other into certain responses and ganging up to make fun of the poll.

IMO... I think that difference here is that there isn't really a "problem" with the mega threads. The topic proposed may sound a little harsh to some but I think it was meant as a suggestion and a topic for discussion. I don't have a problem with the megathreads or the forum in general, but I think that enhancements could (and always will need to) be made. Obviously the idea behind the megathreads is to avoid things that have been asked repeatedly in other threads, but the only "problem" is that some hidden gems of knowledge are mixed in and some comments made that may be "repeats" of things spoken about in other threads might be better explained or add new prospective. I have learned SOO much from this forum and find it a fantastic place to get information and advice, but that said, some of the most important things I have learned here I wasn't searching for when I found them. I enjoy clicking on random posts who's titles sound interesting and almost always find some useful information from them. This is not possible with the megathreads because I am not going to read through thousands of pages of random (mostly noob) questions and one word answers. I don't think that the threads should go away or stop being used, but I think that some topics are moved here too quickly and could be left open as stand alone threads to allow more conversation around a topic. Another reason that I think people are frustrated with them is that their question may get one or two responses that don't fully answer their question and are then overlooked by future posts. If left open in a new thread they could be expanded upon more easily and the conversation could flow more smoothly than quoting a response from multiple pages ago. I think that this forum would benefit from more organization. For instance the video section should be divided up more, example/walkthrough solves, tutorials, successes, etc. Yes the search function is an invaluable tool, however it does cause some information to be lost in the thousands of pages of the MEGA.

This is a RESULT of the system that's in place. It would no longer be true if your suggestion was taken up and there were suddenly 10 times as many threads.

If you want to ask a question, you can just ask it, and people will be happy to answer as long as you didn't give it it's own thread.

Anyway, actually new topics (and some old ones) will remain, but a lot of stuff on old topics will be moved.

Yes, it maybe true that searching for threads is easier than posts in threads because the way things are set up, but wouldn't it be most efficient overall to have a balance of both so both are equally efficient? The way things are right now, its not balanced. It is much easier to search for threads than posts in threads.

People are happy to answer question that require short answers. You shouldn't post discussions in The One Answer One Question Thread (Answer should be changed to paragraph or sentence, because one answer can be pretty large).

Some topics remain separate, but most are merged with large threads already even though they were discussion which doesn't belong in that sort of thread. How are you supposed to go discuss your topic in an old thread when its been moved to the one of these large threads?

You know there's also a search thread function... HUGE threads shouldn't matter if you know how to search.

Right back at ya :p

The only big thread that I really have a problem with threads being moved into is the One Answer One Question Thread. Threads like the Petrus or ZZ Home Thread are suitable for discussions because there all about a more specified topic and have less "traffic" all at once.

I said that we should have a more balanced system, and I believe it. Right now we are more on the side of having fewer threads, but they're huge threads.

EDIT: I second sk8terman41s statement that there isn't a "problem", but enhancements can be made and should be. Actually, I second his entire post. I agree with all of it.

There should be some sort of 'chat' window placed discretely on the front page where these questions could be put. If you don't fancy seeing noob questions every time you go on SS there would be an option to close it. Otherwise, the question will be answered more or less straight away without clogging up the front page.

If only there was a way to get round the trolls.

This forum is intentionally set up to have fewer threads. This is because the vast majority of users here prefer having the forum separated into discreet lines of discussion, since that makes it easier to navigate.

I understand that the "one answer question" threads suffer somewhat, but allowing every question to have its own thread would make navigating the forums impossible. From what I've seen, nothing has been moved into those threads that haven't deserved it. The vast majority of users here have said they haven't had a problem getting answers out of those threads. OP doesn't like them because they make it harder to argue with the advice he's getting.

That's not it. The problem is, I actually want advice, not insults/mockery. I want to receive advice and then discuss it. I want to be able to reply again later to say what works and want doesn't work for me. I want to discuss my issues, not get a one-word answer to a problem which no one has been able to get enough information about anyway.

I have had threads moved into the OAQT even though they weren't exactly 'one answer' threads and they were in the right section, and when you look back to your thread and can't find it, it can be annoying. A notification that your thread has been moved could be a potential idea.

Also, I'd like to adress the searching of threads for these questions. If these are all being moved to the OAQT, then to find them, you need to have the wording exactly right to find them. If there was a 'database', like Wiki Answers, on the website, it would be a lot easier to post and find questions. It would also mean there is an individual 'section' for each question, instead of all of them piled into one thread. Also, a 'Thanks' button for these could make a 'ranking', where the more questions you answer, the higher you rank. This is commonly seen on other forums, and something that I think could successfully be introduced here.

Or just scrap the OAQT altogether, instead of having to change everything else to make the OAQT more useable.

No, that's exactly it. You've gotten tons of advice on this forum, tons of very good advice. Not once have you responded to that advice with a "thank you". No, you've argued with every single piece of advice (my favorite is when you said you didn't get a shengshou 4x4 because you can't get them in the UK). You're just a very argumentative person.

Move this thread to the one answer one question thread.

The One Question: Should the OAOQ thread be scrapped?

The One Answer: No.

The majority has made their decision.

Well clearly 1/5th of the forum members don't like the OAQT situation; clearly 1/5th doesn't matter to you.
