One-answer threads - what to do about them?

What should be done with the "one-answer" threads?

This is the only speedcubing forum with any decent member base (except that I can't benefit from that member base because of the damned one-answer threads).

EDIT: Now there's 5 people on my side!

You can't benefit from this member base because you can't take any damned advice. It's your own fault.

Look at the poll: 2 voted option 2 and 3 voted option 4. 2 + 3 = 5.

Yeah... So 5 people are on your side and and 31 have an opposite opinion. I would say that 5 < 31 so just deal with it or leave the forum and find some place you like better.

You are really irritating person, just whining and asking stupid things that are already answered many times... Just use search function and you will find answers to most of the questions. If you can't then just post to the "OneAnswerThread" and 95% of the time you will actually get a decent answer. But really use search first it's helpful to all of us.

Noobs are ok. We're pretty forgiving. But when your threads have been moved so many times you should learn that there are already places to post such questions and try to follow how this forum works. Complaining about it is just annoying to people.

^This.

You're not going to get anywhere on a forum by blatantly disregarding the rules and complaining when you have people tell you what the rules are.

I have some sympathy with OP because I don't like the megathreads either, and I've moaned about them before. But, there's a weight of opinion in favour of them, so we just have to get over it. This is a great forum regardless.

I voted delete them by accident before checking the results, because I thought you meant delete the crappy noob threads, such as this.

5-1 = 4 on your side.

This forum is called "suggestions", so that's what I'm doing. I'm not trying to "sway" anyone, I'm just trying to find out what would be the best thing for our forum; from the users' point of view.

well it seems from the user point of view, things are fine

i've had no problem with the megathreads that they ended up being sorted into because that way there's 1 place to look for things, granted for a new user it might be a bit overwhelming since they're so big now, but the first thing you have to learn is that searches are your best friend because at this point, if you're having some question, it is extremely likely some one else has had the same question and had asked and gotten it answered before.

also choice #3 looked lonely so i voted for that one :3

Well you actually have no excuse for voting the "wrong" option because I defined "one-answer threads" in the first post.

Wow... You all are giving him a hard time about this aren't you... He has a valid point. I find it much easier to search the forum for a thread than I do search one huge thread for a post. I think we don't really need to have big threads like this, but they are useful if your asking a very simple question (with a one sentence answer).

There wouldn't be multiple threads on the same question if people searched for threads, but having them all go to big threads like this makes it appear as if the question hasn't been asked because there's no threads about it causing newer users to make a thread about it!

If someone still makes a new thread without searching, the thread can be deleted, and they can be private messaged a link to a previous thread with the same question and given a warning to search before they make a new thread, because it is in the rules after all.

EDIT: I vote to not move threads into "One-Answer Threads"

"also choice #3 looked lonely so i voted for that one :3" - This shouldn't be done. This kind of behavior makes polls inaccurate.

Shouldn't you be able to change your answer in a poll incase you change your mind, click the wrong one, or mind your mind up? This would prevent new polls over already polled on things just to get newer results.

This is a RESULT of the system that's in place. It would no longer be true if your suggestion was taken up and there were suddenly 10 times as many threads.

Also, I'd like to question your need to find one post within a so called "mega thread." If you want to ask a question, you can just ask it, and people will be happy to answer as long as you didn't give it it's own thread. If you want to start a large discussion, why not do it in an old thread? There's no reason why a bump can't be just as productive as starting a new thread. In fact, I'm much more likely to respond to a post in the Petrus home thread than one in a thread called "I'd like to talk about Petrus even though there's already a thread for that" or "what are your thoughts on Petrus?" or "I clicked the thing that let me post my thread, but I didn't read it"

Anyway, actually new topics (and some old ones) will remain, but a lot of stuff on old topics will be moved.

I disabled it for this poll becaues I was worried that users would gang up and all change their votes to the same response.
