I'm Davey. I've been cubing for about 9 months now, but I'm still pretty terrible at it. My average is about 2:30 when I don't use LBL, with which I usually get about 1:50ish. I primarily use a small variant of the Petrus Method, where I don't correct the "bad" edges and use the Fridrich OLL/PLL. Could anyone offer any advice on how to grip it well, or how to become faster? Any help would be appreciated

Hello Davey.

My recommendation would be to stick with LBL beginners method until you're at least sub-1:10. Then move on to learning a different method. If you're going to use petrus, you should probably correct bad edges and use real full petrus, or you're just doing some crazy inefficient F2L.
Really, the only way to get faster is to practice a lot and practice often. How many of the OLL/PLL do you know? Usually people don't learn those until around a minute (at least, I didn't).

I know 7 of the OLL cases: Bowtie, headlights, h, t, pi, sune, and asune. As for pll, I know h perm, u perm, z perm, and a perm.

both U perms, i hope? you should be doing great with those algs i remember, i was at 1:20 with basic LBL and Sune, F(sexy move)F', A perm and Allan.

I was using something similar to this maybe 4 months back, but I didn't know the F(sexy move) F' yet. I was able to get a 52 second time with this, and then I started learning 2LOLL.

I'd say keep going with LBL and using 4look last layer (OLL and PLL that you already do) until you average about a minute then you can move onto experimenting with Fridrich F2L, Petrus and Roux (and maybe other methods) to find what suits you best.

Alright, I'll stick with LBL for now. I think my main problem is that I'm not fast enough; I tried out different methods to speed up my slowest algs last night and my time has improved by quite a bit.
