non-cubers are easily impressed

That's a relief, in my area, may be it's the fact that my parents always take me to mostly asian mall/place, so even when I solve the cube really fast, nobody pays attention to it :P Most people just mind their own business, and probably doesn't want to pop in and ask me about it (after all I try to make my face serious LMAO)

I'd probably get so many free stuff if I'm living around that kind of community lol

Some drug addict outside Iceland (another uk supermarket) saw me solving slowly, working out F2l :P and he said "you've got no chance mate" and i asked him to scramble it and i solved it in about 1 min 20 (when i was a nub) and he was like, "omg mate i'm either stoned or you just solved that pretty damn quick" I editted the profanities there :P

The cube fits in my pocket so I might as well bring it around lol. I've only been offered a meal once(at Denny's), whenever I go to other restraunts the servers act like its no big deal or don't seem to notice. But once while I was waiting in the front of a Denny's some lady walked up and said "Holy crap, those things are stille around?" Then she asked if I'd ever solved it: "Oh yeah, I can do it in around 40 seconds" Then she went: "Holy sh*t." Lol, that made my day.

It is fun to see other people impressed but sometimes it gets weird when people are looking.

I once had lunch in a restaurant with my mom and sister and the food took a bit long so I cubed a bit. And then the waiter came and started to tell other people to look and later on he had me solve it BLD, sadly I had 2 edges flipped <_<
Then this woman came to me and said that it was impossible and that I must have photographic memory and such... :P

Damn, if I could even get to that point where I have two edges flipped I'd be happy, Erik!

i wonder if solving the cube is good for a free meal at mcdonalds....

btw, has anyone ever made any money off of it? like when someone bet you? cause that would be sweet

anyway, i got some more public practice today. the only one of my four teachers that didnt get to see me solve it told me to bring it in cause one of my friends from a different class told her about it. whole class ended up watching me, but i think im starting to get used to it now. at least i wasnt sweating the whole time i was doing it.

I haven't made any money of it, besides some bets. But at the Euro 2006 tournament there was a notice about price-money. I thougt it was a typo or humor, but there actually was money to be won. About ? 2500 if I remember correctly! I even heard some of the best (like Jo?l van Noort) got paid a startersfee + travel expenses.
