Hey hey,

My name is Rainger, I’m a Linux System Admin. I played sports my whole life and wrestled in college but I always loved learning and being efficient. I learned to program and quickly dove into low level, efficient programming. A couple months back I started learning how to solve a speed cube on a cheap QiYi warrior, I couldn’t solve it and it was so intriguing. I wanted to learn algorithms, I wanted to be as efficient as possible. This led me on a few month path of buying every 3x3 to 7x7 I saw good reviews on. I want to keep learning and make some good friends on here.In the end I really want to be able to be competitive in some local competitions. I use roux method and I usually average between 30-60 seconds. I have a lot to learn and I need to get much better at block building but I found something I really like doing and I’m so glad that there is a community for this.

Welcome! What are your times for other events?
I’ve never been to a competition, at home I can do a 7x7 in maybe 10 minutes, a 4x4 in 2 minutes, and a 5x5 in maybe 5. Not great times but honestly I mainly slow solve and focus on efficient solves at this point in my learning. My fastest was a 34 on a 3x3. I am actually making some resources for other Cubers as I learn. Am working on recording a CMLL playlist on YouTube for each case. Your times?

I average around 19 seconds on 3x3 and 1:15 on 4x4. You should try going to a comp if you can, they're so much fun!

If you really like efficiency, check out the Heise method and Fewest Moves solving. It's a completely different experience compared to speed solving. One of the best things about the cube is that there are so many different ways to solve it. Welcome!

I’ll check out Heise! I’ve heard of fewest moves but never have attempted it.

Thanks! And yes, I use CFOP. I switched a few months ago from CFOP to another method called CFCE, but switched back to CFOP
I did the same thing. Started with roux then tried to pick up CFOP for a few weeks then switched back.
