After 8 months of work on LBL I went from about 2 min to 70 seconds.
After 2 months of work on Roux I went from about 1 min to -30 seconds.
It's worth it. Even if you don't use Roux after, the knowledge will be worth it.

LBL is the Layer By Layer method, similar to Fridrich but very watered down, usually the method taught to beginners.

Don't worry about buying a DIY. Just do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTDblHV-NMU to your storebought. I can vouch for it, it works very well.

Don't use petroleum jelly. It has been known to (notice I didn't use an absolute, so as not to get yelled at by supporters of it) slowly degrade the plastic on a cube. I recommend CRC silicone spray.

The best advice is to improve your skill and than improve your rubix cube. i mean if you know to scramble the cube in 2 or 1 minutes than greasing the cube is the least of your worries

and by the way, nice cube collection !
