Hi, everyone. I got into cubing about a month ago when my mom bought me a Rubik's 360 for my birthday. After solving it I went and bought the cube and learned the beginners method ASAP, I've gotten a personal best of :51 with it so far, but I'm starting to memorize Fridrich algorithms. I'm about halfway through the F2L cases right now, trying to add 2 or 3 every day.

I'm getting a DIY and tiles in the mail soon! I'm really hoping I'll be able to shave some time with a better cube, I consistently feel like I know exactly what to do, but the storebought just can't keep up and is very finicky about making some turns.

Anyway, I'm pretty new to cubing, before this I was mostly into competitive gaming in my free time. I used to go to Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl tournaments all the time, even won a few and placed others. I'm into competitive Starcraft too, but there's basically no scene for it here so I don't always like only playing ICCup...

Anyway, just saying a bit about myself to the forums. If anyone else is big into Smash or Starcraft hit me up!

Welcome!

Don't worry about learning F2L via algorithm, look at youtube for Badmephisto's F2L video and learn it intuitively, he has both beginner and advanced videos. Learn the algs for particular cases only. After you learn F2L look into 2-Look OLL/PLL then you can progress to full PLL and then full OLL if you want (meph has videos for those as well). Of course, there are many other methods so do not discount those as well. Lastly, be sure to visit the wiki and look over the algorithms to find ones that will work for your style.

I love Melee. It is my favorite game.

Also, search "Intuitive F2L".

Haha, Melee is most certainly >>>> than Brawl, but I think there is a bit of fun to be had there. Yeah its buried under a mountain of horrible balance, chaingrabs, glitchy gameplay and its campy as hell, but there's something incredibly satisfying about being Snake and hitting someone into your grenade, then blowing them up with C4 when they bounce off it :)

Anyway, I took you guys' advice and threw my algorithms for F2L out the window and learned how to do intuitive. I can already tell it will be a lot better than algorithms. My understanding of the cube seems to be skyrocketing everyday. I can visualize the effects of moves much, much better now. Heck, I tried blind solving the cross for the first time ever yesterday and I was able to do it 75% of the time.

No way I'd be able to do that without practicing intuitive for 10 hours or so. My times are definitely slower than with LBL, but they're slowly coming down and I know I'll be sub-50 soon enough.

When's a good time to learn 2LPLL? Or should I do 2LOLL first? I kinda feel like I should concentrate on just F2L right now until I'm really happy with my times, but since I'm not memorizing any algorithms right now, maybe its actually the perfect time.

I personally went with 2LOLL and 2LPLL (collectively referred to as 4LLL) at the same time, and after I started F2L. I didn't time myself much because I was focusing on solving efficiently instead of speed. It is actually quite easy to learn because there are only 17 algorithms total. And all of those algorithms are used in full OLL and PLL. But after you get 2LPLL down, go for full PLL. Full OLL is going to be more of a hurdle though.

2LPLL will be the easiest to go ahead and learn, as its only 3 more algorithms on top of what you already know(this is assuming you've figured out that your U-perm, the last step of PLL, can be used to rotate the edges both clockwise and counter clockwise)

2LOLL will take longer to learn, but its not that bad when you have the motivation to actually learn it(as i am lacking right now). One lucky thing for me is i learned that an OLL case can be solved by the second half of my E-perm

YAY!

I live in the Dallas area, I'm sub-15 (low 15 officially :) ), and I love Smash Bros.! I've been playing much less thanks to more school, meaning I'm cubing more when I get free time. The 'Phase' tournaments are Dallas tourneys, and I went to Phase 6. :D I missed 7, and will probably miss 8 as well. idk, but my first and only tourney was phase 6.
I found out one of the guys I played there was the friend of my cubing friend, Justin, who of course lives in the Dallas area. He's on the forums too, Ashmnafa.
There's also MichealP. and SaberSlash49 on the forums, who live around the Dallas area as well.. We've had a few cube meets in the post, and will hold more in the future. Keep in touch!

There's also Hiero, a man who's taught and will teach some younger students how to solve the cube. :D He's in the Dallas area.
There are a few more cubers around here I've seen posting, but I don't really know them (yet).

Welcome to the forums! :D

More Texas cubers!

I haven't been to any phases, unfortunately :( I semi-retired from the scene just before they started, though I still go to anything that's here in Denton. The last UNT tourney about a month or two ago had Sethlon, Bwett, Dphat, TakeUrLife, Chuky, Denti, and UTDZac and I still made it to winners, then losers semis :)

I've been wanting to make it out to a Phase, though. Maybe HOBO.

Who do you play? I'm all top-tiers, lol. Snake, MK, D3, trying to add some Olimar just for fun right now.

You should teach me cubes and I'll teach you Smash, lol.

Mr. Game and Watch for life. <3

Marth is my secondary, but I've used him less and less w/ GaW more and more. Well, I've been playing the game less and less lately. :p But still, Smash Bros. ftw

It'll teach you cubes, lol.
