My new cube seems to be getting worse, not better...

My first cube is just a bog standards Rubiks from Amazon.co.uk. After 4 or 5 days it seems to be getting a bit better, and easier to turn. However, over the last couple of days it seems to lock up a lot more.

Is this a result of it turning easier (and my poor finger skills...), or have my brutal attempts at fast algorithms that I am still learning just buggered it up?

I've not lubed it yet - going to go hunting for some Silicone Spray this week at Halfords (a car store). Hopefully that (and texture cubesmith stickers...) will help get it back on track.

Is there any way to adjust the tension in the "new" cubes that don't have screws? I found a link but it was dead. Thanks everyone :)

It could be that its a bit dusty inside, if you dissasemble it, and clean the pieces with a damp towel, it can help.

It could also be that you are not used to turning fast/performing algorithms.

Id say it still needs breaking in more, also if your from UK, you can get silicone spray from amazon too. a 3rd party seller though.

Yeah. It's the dust that makes the cube so hard to turn. Also, it would also be that the cube is not lubed yet. For the rubiks.com cubes, I've read something about jamming lolly pop sticks between the center rivets or something and leaving them there overnight. :)

u need to turning it WAYYYYYY more to get it loose, maybe after a month or two.
and no u cannot adjust the tension, unless you know how to modify the cube.

I used what another member said (I forget who said it) and took napkins to rub off all the dust. It really does help your cube a lot.
