So while learning ALGS, I've found my brain needs something more visual than just the list of moves as text (IE, R U R' U). I created a workbook in Excel with the cube shown as 9 cells, with arrows showing the direction of the turn. I just 'read' the cube shapes rather than the letters.

Here is an example of what I've got for the Ja perm. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll upload a copy. It's currently got all CFOP PLL Algs plus Sune and AntiSune.

The single > donates the direction of travel. a double >> means turn twice. it assumes the cube is facing you, so F moves are indicated by arrows in the center box.
None of the algs I use have B or S moves, so haven't worked out an arrow system for those.

I think this is actually more confusing
What I remember is small clusters of moves as muscle memory which is what I guess most people do

I still have a Google sheets with algs, but recently I've been using (physical) flashcards to learn my remaining PLLs. I find it easier to shuffle and put aside ones I know. I tried Anki and software flashcards but it was always more work than just drawing the cube diagram on the card.

if you use a system that assign a letter to each row or column and a symbol for clockwise / anticlockwise / double move you have the speedcubing notation............

@Filipe Teixeira correct! The reason I did the boxes is because my brain finds it easier to do the moves looking at something the same shape as what I'm holding. I find it hard sometimes to convert the normal notation to movements ;)
