YAY!11.70 Pyraminx average, 0.01 seconds off of making finals ;-;
I never ever ever ever touch 7x7 or big cubes at all but I got a 9:30. So, like, yay for official single?
My thread doesn't show up at the top whenever I search "My Cubing Journey" anymore and it's quite upsetting.
Anyway, I signed up for FSUbers 4.0 (terrible pun). Events are 3x3, 2x2, 7x7, Clock (Tommy WR maybe?), Pyra. Honestly I don't have that much free time at the moment, and when I do have free time I prefer to do things other than cubing. This will likely be my first comp where I don't really PR or do "that well" and am focusing purely on the fun aspect of it (even though I had a ton of fun at the others too).
3x3 I don't particularly have a goal since I'm probably a couple seconds slower than I was. 3x3 has always been a bit of a struggle for me; it's difficult for me to get into a pattern with and can feel very clunky and slow, but is quite enjoyable when I am in the rhythm. I probably won't practice enough for that to happen. I guess a 15 average would be nice but if I continue to not practice it's possible even that doesn't happen.
2x2 I might practice a little bit, so I'm hoping to get at least a sub-5 average (I was previously globally around 4.2, but now I'm probably closer to 4.5 now). A PR single (currently 3.25) is definitely possible but completely depends on the scrambles. Also a PR average (currently 4.28) is completely possible with good scrambles and good execution; it's not unusual for me to get sub-4 averages at home.
I want to be able to reach cutoff for 7x7, but I both dislike and am bad at big cubes so there's a very high chance I don't. At the very least I want to stackmat a solve (yes, I'm that bad at it. I haven't solved a 7x7 timed in a couple months at least).
Clock I probably won't practice, and my current PR is pretty solid (13.93). Tbh I don't care much about it but assuming I don't lose all of my skill I want a sub-15 average at least. A good scramble could definitely lead to a PR single (currently 12.58), but I wouldn't expect that to happen.
I used to be okay at pyraminx (I think around sub-5) but it's been legitimately nearly 3 years since I've practiced it at all, and I don't even completely remember L4E. I have no goal because this completely depends on if I practice at all, but sub-10 would be pretty decent I guess.
So yeah, overall definitely looking forward to the comp, although it's a bit of a drive for me. I won't be going with anyone but it should be quite fun regardless.
I’ll see you at your next compI think I covered pretty much everything I wanted to about the comp yesterday.
Overall it was super fun. I did little to no practice for it, but I still actually did surprisingly decent. To update on my goals going into it:
Got a 15.5ish average in first round, plus made it to second round. Second round average would’ve been a 15 something if I hadn’t wrongly predicted the AUF, and it had a couple of decent solves.
2x2 I got 4.8 and 4.7 averages. Probably could’ve been a bit faster, but I’m happy with them.
7x7 I did one solve the day of the comp just to make sure I could stackmat (and none in the previous 3 months), plus overall I’m horrible at big cubes, and I got 8:30 on it. My only real goal was to get an official solve so I’ll take it, as slow as it was.
Clock actually went quite well, I did as good as I would when I was practicing. 14.2 average, but it would’ve been sub-14 and sub-PR had I not done that 10 solving upside down. Definitely would’ve been nice to get that single and average, but it’s alright. I got 11th in round one, and of course they only took top 8 to finals instead of 12
Did zero practice on pyra, my time depending on if I did the right L4E case honestly. I guess a sub-10 solve would’ve been cool, but I ended up with a 10 single and 11 average, which is good enough for me.
Tons of fun, can’t wait for the next one!
don't think. just solveBeen thinking about cubing again
thinking about it and doing it are very different though
don't think. just solve
I was in your same situation but I decided to do like a hour long cubing session yesterday and it was super funIt’s the starting that’s the issue
ikrIt’s the starting that’s the issue
Just use cube masters. It’s very intuitiveHopefully registering for a comp soon. It has square-1 so I’d suck it up and learn parity
