I am having trouble understanding this, maybe someone else is in the same boat as i am?

My personal bests are in my signature, but my overall averages is what I'm curious about.

4x4 averaging about 2:20-ish
5x5 average about 2:50-ish.....only 30 seconds difference?

I have noticed compared to my other cube time, these two are getting closer together.
It might be the fact I really don't like the 4x4 cube, lol. Or parity maybe. I know parity can suck up some time, and parity of some kind happens more times than no parity at all.

Can someone possibly shed some light on this?
Anyone else in kind of the same boat?

Maybe it's because you don't have to think of the colour scheme because 5x5 is an odd cube and 4x4 is an even cube.

It's simple. You don't do one of either puzzles enough to maintain/improve your achievable speed.

It might also be that one of your puzzles turns much worse than the other. In that case, just look into buying a cube or cleaning/lubing it.

It might be that the methods you are using for these puzzles aren't similar or not suitable for that specific kind of puzzle, or certain steps of the methods (for instance, edge pairing?). In that case, look into other methods.

I was in your position kind of, a few months ago. I had a 2:30 5x5 average and a 1:50 4x4 average. I just practised 4x4 a little more and it went down to 1:35ish. So now they're a bit farther apart. As Musli4brekkies said, you probably practise 5x5 much more.

The WR for the 4x4 is about 37 seconds. The WR for the 5x5 is about 67 seconds. The 4x4/5x5 ratio in this case is about 0.55 .

This means if your 4x4 time is 2:20 (or 140 seconds), the ideal 5x5 is 140/0.55 seconds or about 4:14. So it looks like you need to do many more solves on the 4x4 I guess. If your 5x5 time is 2:50 (ie 170 seconds), your 4x4 time should be 170 * 0.55 seconds or 93 seconds or 1:33.

Personally, my PB for the 4x4 is 3:25 (205 seconds) and is 7:25 (445 seconds) for the 5x5. The ratio 4x4/5x5 is 0.46, close to the WR ratio.
