This problem might not be universal as many regions have a good representation of delegates and trainees who can distribute their duties throughout the year.
If the delegate decides to solo delegate many competitions and travel a lot, in regions where there is no other delegates, it can lead to burnout (possibility of a burnout).
I have been a trainee for a year and I felt an additional workload which led me to enjoy competitions less, but fortunately I was not burnt out as I had good support, mentorship and assistance in my region.
I have some ideas to mitigate burnout in delegates (you can also add to this):

I have some ideas to mitigate burnout in delegates (you can also add to this):
- Appoint more delegates in a region to have redundancy (I understand the appointment process is slow and trustworthy and quality candidates are required)
- Avoid solo delegating (if the organizer or regional organization can reimburse two travel itinerary)
- Appoint volunteers to prepare organizers for smoother logistics (these can be people from RO or just experienced cubers who can help making organizers organize the competition better)
- Delegate to competitor ratio should be ~1:50
- For a two day competition, have minimum two delegates, and for a three day competition, have minimum three delegates and so on
- Public transparent communication forum (like the WCA Forum) for the delegates to express the difficulty of covering competitions in their region, so that they get solutions from everyone
