It needs to be very loose to even function as a speed cube. If it's set too tight then yeah, as you've already noticed, you might as well just use a storebought.
You need to mess about with the tensions A LOT before they feel right. I spent nearly as much time tensioning the Legend as I did with the
GansII.
Even when you get them right, the cube is still totally unforgiving. But as you've noticed, the layers turn effortlessly. The fact that it takes far less force to turn the layers than any cube I own(I've got 30+ 3x3x3s including all of the newer stuff), keeps me coming back for more.
At least until I realize that I can't be as accurate as it wants me to be, at which point the darn thing just annoys me. One sloppy turn and it yanks you out of your alg.
If you mess up too often, sharp spikes come out of the pieces and pierce your finger tips. It's the cubes way of telling you that you can't handle its self-proclaimed legendary awesomeness.
But yeah, you either love or hate this cube. I love it because just seems so willing to go fast but still requires refinement of style that I doubt I'll ever bother to attain. Which makes it a challenge. A challenge that isn´t impossible to eventually master IMO.
If you don't like it, get a DaYan. Friendly cubes those...
In terms of mods; there was
this guy that isn't around these parts anymore that apparently managed to devise a decent mod that helps tame it slightly.
Good luck...
