I haven't been cubing for long but I have good finger dexterity from many, many other things I do. You might say that I am a mathematician. I was wondering if there was a method that the best people use that you can let someone scramble a cube and you solve it. At the moment I am working on the 'Layer by Layer' method where you would solve a cross, the first layer corners and so on and so forth. I am currently doing it in around 4 minutes with a best time of 2 minutes and 30 seconds which isn't all that good. I really want to learn a new method as my ideal time is 1 minute but that's a long way off. Does anyone know a method that will speed up my cubing?

Yes, there are plenty of methods out there for you to choose from.

You won't need a lot of the information that I'm going to give you for a long time but you asked for it so I will give you it. As I have said there are plenty of methods for you to use although there are three that are very popular. Two of them are called 'Block Building' methods, they are so called because the first step is to build a 'block of colour' on one side of the cube. These methods are called the Petrus Method and the Roux method, created by Lars Petrus and Gilles Roux respectively. The method you are curently using actually has a lot of potential, you can get below 20 seconds! I'm sure another member will set you up with a link.

If you are another one of those 'I want to get fast now!' people then you might as well follow the crowd and use the Fridrich method, so called because it was adapted and optimised by Jessica Fridrich. This is very similar to your method at the moment; build a cross but then finish the 'F2L' or First Two Layers win one step. You will then Orientate the Last Layer (OLL) and finally Permute the last layer to finish the cube (PLL).

And that is your very basic 'I want to get faster' answer. If you had bothered to look in the Beginner's Section, you would have found this thread repeated plenty of times and if you had put a little more thought into the whole thing you may have realised there is a 'search function'; if you used it you might have found something similar.

wow ill just keep practicing then. is it a just do it over and over again or is it like try for a goal. i am wanting to do it with a random scramble. a 45 second cube from a random scramble. i dont belive it!

This video should be required viewing for new members (and I wish Erik had included the description in the video, will ask him to add it as annotation).

With Socks?
Do socks give you magical abilities to solve 8/5 times faster? I got to try that!

Edit:

You use the Tetris method where you build legos! Tetris is the best!

wow gosh sozz for peeing every1 off i will think more next time. im used to being on another forum so i already know every thread. sozz guys my bad.

Hi there,

It's not a big problem, but try searching for other threads first before opening a new one as it makes people get a little annoyed having to answer the same questions a lot..

Also, when you are typing, try to type with atleast a tiny amount of grammar and spelling, if you look at the top-right corner of the message-screen there is actually a spell check button. People don't feel inclined to help you when you type like an 8-year-old and it takes them 10 minutes to decipher what you've written.

Welcome to the forums.

yes, i am very sorry about that too but i have gotten into the habbit of bad grammar and spelling because of many reasons.(mainly because of msn)
i must try harder in the future
