As is well-known, Maru's lube dries up relatively quickly. However, that has not been much of a problem thus far.
On my relatively new Maru cube, every 250 or so solves, I wipe down the pieces to rid of the cube dust and reapply one or two drops. Every time, the cube is like when it first started, which is good enough.
However, the same does not seem to work on my very new GuHong. I was very pleased by the initial lubrication with like 5 drops of Maru lube. However, I have run into trouble effectively reapplying the lube. I wiped it down, put in two drops, and now the GuHong turns extremely sluggishly. Even after a thorough wipedown and two more applications, and lubing the core, it's still really crappy (yes, a crappy GuHong with Maru lube, what the heck).

Has anyone else had this sort of issue? If so, any suggestions? I'm thinking of immersing the cubies in hot water to remove everything and start afresh.
Thanks.

2 drops per edge for 4 edges, is what I do. Two opposite edges on top. Two opposite edges on bottom. also, remember, the guhong has more surface area on the inside (the long stalks), even if these parts don't rub, lube still goes there so you need extra for the places that do rub.

there is absolutely no reason to wipe down your cube every 250 solves. Just keep solving it and don't worry about it. Reapply a few drops of lube when you feel its necessary, and that should be quite adequate.

It seems like adding what I thought was a copious amount of lube (upwards of 9 drops) has restored the cube to its former state. Whew.
As for wiping down the cube, I was always under the impression that the dust would affect lubrication by preventing the lube from contacting the surface enough and uniformly. After all, the intended surfaces are just 2D surfaces while the dust motes are attachable from all sides.
Anyway, thank you both.

I tried to lube my Haiyan Memory with Maru lube.It made it even worse, turning became very sticky with the high viscosity of the maru lube.cleaned it easily with 2 kitchen towels.re-lubed with CRC.now turning is as smooth as a haiyan memory should be.basically, maru lube is designed for maru cubes,so only use it for maru cubes.

A GuHong with Maru lube won't make much dust. There is no need to wipe it down.

True that. I guess it was habit; my previous cubes were a 2007 Rubik's DIY and a Maru, both which get quite dusty quite quickly. Then, wiping away the dust yielded undeniably better results. Once, I forgot to clean out the cube and the lube's effect disappeared after 5 solves!

what I noticed when i dissassembled my guhong, was that the centers pieces were turning very bad.

I loosened the screws so that I could put 1 drop of lube in there and did it to every side
and then I did put two or three drops through the holes next to a random center after I assembled my guhong

I turned out to help a lot, you should try it.

And, yes I do also whipe my pieces sometimes before I put some new lube in.

Use Lubix...
I'm thinking about it. It definitely has a reputation.
I recently ran across the original thread when Pixel began his marketing of Lubix and when he had to staunchly defend his product against many attacks. The concerns were legitimate and Pixel's claims a little bit large (I still don't believe that it's simply viscous silicone), but I'm glad to see that his product has proven itself worthy.
Still, it costs as much as a decent speedcube, and I really want another speedcube first. haha.
