One of my hobbies besides cubing is magic. Just yesterday, I went to a magic shop and a magician showed me a really cool trick with the Rubik's Cube. He took out a key chain cube (with out the key chain on it) and asked me to scramble it. When I was done, he took it back and asked me what my fastest time was. He asked me to count out loud every second that goes by. He started applying a few turns, and put the cube in his mouth when I got to five. When I got to eleven, he opened his mouth and showed a solve cube. He then wiped off the cube and handed it to me to inspect and make sure that it was a normal cube. I was completely amazed.

I was searching youtube for more videos of Rubik's Cube magic. I came across this video of magicians Barry and Stuart doing a routine that involved a Rubik's Cube.

Have you guys ever seen any magic tricks with Rubik's Cubes? I'm really interested in this sub-category of close-up magic.

im not going to watch the video, I know exactly which one it is lol
but the keychain cube is so easy to palm, so he could have done that. I have seen some magic tricks with cubes, but I don't practice magic with cubes. I do street magic, but only to friends, but want to go do actual street magic. I used to want to go to the mall, but that's illegal, panhandling.

actually, it has been almost a year since I stopped doing magic, and am now getting back into it.

You don't need to switch the cube. I've come up with a few other ways to do the same trick without switching the cube or changing the stickers, though trick doesn't end clean unless you switch it. Also, when Garrett Thomas does the trick, he immediately hands out the cube to be looked at as soon as he finishes the solve.

I can also remember a few years ago when Keith Barry did a very cool trick on his special "Keith Barry: Extraordinary", though I doubt that the clip is anywhere on the internet. He had himself and another person both randomly scramble cubes behind their backs. When they both finished scrambling, they're cubes were in the exact same state. I've come up with a method that is a slight variation on what he did, so I don't want anyone to just claim that the spectator was in on it.

As I was typing this, I thought of another trick involving a cube, but I won't tip the method. The magician draws out one side of a Rubik's Cube. He then (without letting the spectators look) writes in letters for in each section of the side that represent the colors (R=red, Y=yellow, etc.). An audience member then is given 10 moves to scramble a cube. The audience member sets the cube down, and the top side matches the prediction. The principle for this is a very old principle, and anyone who is interested in magic/mentalism can probably figure out this trick.

Are these the only tricks possible with a Rubik's Cube? If you have any ideas of tricks, even if you can't come up with a method, it would be appreciated if you would post your ideas here so that any magicians here can come up with methods for the effects.

I've seen this clip. It wasn't slight of hand or anything, the TV camera actually cut away so he could swap cubes.

My hobby beside cubing is magic as well, i saw a magic trick that is the magician throws the scramble cube in the air, when he catches it, it is solved
